K03 Revo Stage 2 - Down on Power?
« on: August 25, 2012, 01:47:36 pm »
Hi All

Need some help to determine why the car has become rather sluggish lately, don’t know whether it’s because the weather has gotten a bit warmer these past couple of weeks and the cars suffering from heat soak? Or if it’s something else!?

I’ve done a scan of the car with Vagcom and that hasn’t brought up any faults, have the Liquidgolf installed and have it measuring boost, still peaking at about 22psi, so that shouldn’t be a problem right?

Yet I’m still determined there’s an issue with the car, so decided to make a few logs. Can anyone notice anything out of ordinary? Or is it just me over-worrying?....

Mods so far is a Rev-d, ITG Maxogen, BCS exhaust system, stage 2 Revo. Always ran on V Power

Settings here are B7 T3 F9

Another log, but this time with B8 T4 F9

Any help would be much appreciated, thinking about getting the car booked in for a timing belt change and autotech HPFP fitted, thats a no no if the cars not right!  :sad1:

.
My Mk5 K03 GTI is a similar spec to yours:  Revo Stage 2, Forge Twintake, Milltek TBE, exclusively run on V-Power.

Every individual car can be different but my Revo settings are currently B7 / T5 / F7 and I have an APR HPFP installed which helps a smooth and strong power delivery. Don't copy my B/T/F settings because mine are specifically setup by JKM who have countless logs of mine and who are experts.

I don't know how to interpret the logs you have posted (a tad tiny for most folks to actually read).

Wouldn't your car only suffer heatsoak if the engine is left running for a long period while stationery and the weather is very hot, which the weather certainly isn't this 'Summer'!?

no expert, but your intake air mass seams a bit low, my stage 1 gti would make 200gs, with no other mods,  and yours is stage 2, possible smal boost leak?

All looks ok, load drops off rather quickly in the higher rpm.

Check the joins in the intake between the AFM and the turbo, especially the one on the turbo. The logs don't seem o show there is a problem here but I have found load dropping off quickly in high rpm with a leak here on other cars.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Its the first summer "what there is of it" I've driven the car in stage 2. Considering temperatures have been 18-20+ i thought this could be causing power loss?

Seiko - Thanks for pointing this out. After taking a closer look at older logs, it does appear that above 5.5k rpm i get over 200gs. Looks like there's definetly a problem, any idea how i can inspect for problem?

PDT - Thanks for taking a look, not sure what i need to check though, should i check all connections of the ITG intake? Pictures would be much appreciated.

Thanks again

Ken

Just the joints on the 90 degree bend between AFM and turbo.

AFM readings look OK, 190-200 is a good level for stg2

Its a right bugger  trying to get to that clip, mabey it would be worth gettin a new clip to ensure the best possible seal at the turbo inlet?

Did you get a Powervalve BCS?
I thought i read on here that the BCS power valve boost take off points can come loose causing a slight boost leak.
