Decat very loud on startup
« on: August 25, 2012, 04:47:20 pm »
I fitted a blueflame 3'' DP and decat to my tfsi vRS a few weeks ago,
Since it's been fitted the car is really loud on startup, just for 2 or 3 minutes and then it's fine,
I was told it was probably the baffles gone in my backbox and the noise was amplified due to the fact that the cat's had been removed.
I've since got a low mileage OEM backbox and fitted it, and still the same!
Is this normal or how can it be solved?
Delighted with the decat and remap otherwise, this is just a bit annoying on an early morning!!

When you start the car from cold  it is louder for a minute of so, before the 'high idle' reverts to the normal idle. Not much you can do about it, apart from change the exhaust for a quieter one

No worries, if it's normal to happen, that's fine,
I just wanted to be sure it wasn't something else causing it and needing to be sorted!
Thanks for the help  :happy2:

It's as Rich says. Next time you start up in the morning, don't touch the throttle, watch the rev counter and you'll see the revs settle down of their own accord. Then you can engage gear. Her loudness is directly related to her revs.

It's always good practice to let your car settle it's own revs from a cold start and also not to rev the engine until the water temp is normal (no oil temp gauge on the GTI :sad1:). One of the benefits of DSG is that I can always start a journey in D-mode and by the time I get through town and reach the NSL sign, all is up to temperature etc and I can pop her into Manual mode and boot it!

Can't fit a Polar on a Midline unfortunately.
