GPS aerial placement question.
« on: August 27, 2012, 11:47:53 am »
I see folk like Stealthwolf put their antenna on the plastic vent flap just below the grill. My question is do you have to drill the plastic piece to wire it up to the nav and if so where did you drill?

Here's the part in question

Without traction power is nothing!

No drilling. I stuck it on that arm that goes up/down with the dial and then fed the cable through one of the gaps. The sensor at the back of the diffuser has a similar route.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

So just thread the cable like the red line? I wasn't sure if the thickness of the cable would impede the top grill snapping down properly.

This is how I stuck mine down.

The wire does get trapped in the corner and I did think of grinding down a slot with a file but I''ve never had any issues with doing it the way I did.

Well I took advantage of the sunshine today and moved my aerial on to the vent arm just like yours stealth.
Stuck it down with double sided sticky tape and used a small zip tie for extra security.
