E39 528i driven today!
« on: August 26, 2012, 10:08:26 pm »

I drove my mate's old E39 P reg 528i with 145K on the clock today. I was amazed at how tight it felt, and how cosseting the ride was. I got out at the other end feeling so relaxed! It felt like a 3 year old car, so well put together, and had enough go when required. If I did a lot of motorway miles,or I ever get skint, I'd go for one of these!  :notworthy:

So much nicer than my ex-gf's Dad's E60 525d, with it's creaky interior, rattly diesel and boneshaker runflats.

Fun Golf: 2016 mk7 R DSG 3 door. Work Golf: 2015 mk7 1.4 TSI GT ACT 5 door.
Gone but not forgotten : mk2 Golf GTI 16v, mk4 Golf V6 4Motion, mk5 GTI Storm Developments Stage 1, mk5 GTI Revo Stage 1, BMW 330ci, Skoda Octavia VRS Revo Stage 2, BMW Z4 Sdrive35i.

I also hear the E39 M5 is regarded as one of the last M cars with a comfy ride.

They did also do carbon trim, for the record. Nice colour that, Avus Blue IIRC. The V8 M5s sound amazing too

Yep, Avus Blue was only available in MY 2000 cars. The colour was replaced by Le Mans blue which was a bit lighter. Stunning cars, and amazing value, but I'm easily scared and when I looked into running costs etc it didn't take much to put me off!

Yes, It's the fuel consumption, tyres and potential vanos issues that put me off

I love this forum! The thread starts off about cruising around in a relaxing old 528i, and it very quickly turns into an M5 supercar thread. Brilliant. Proper petrolheads!

Keep it coming though! What else is there to worry about with this as a daily driver?

Great cars  :happy2:

the 530d would probably be my choice... although if i did less miles I would have to go for the m5
