Am I correct in thinking a rocco R and Golf R are pretty much the same engine/power/weight wise and the main difference is one is 2 wheel drive and the other is 4 wheel drive?

It would be interested to run an R32 in front wheel drive mode to see how much time the 4wd saved

it's not quote that straight forward, because you'd have to factor in the extra weight too...

only real way to do it i suppose is to take other VAG cars that have a FWD and 4WD variant and pit them against each other, so Golf TDI 140 vs 4motion, A3 2.0T vs quattro etc.

Ok well coming from an r32 mk4 and was going to buy a mk5 with recaros I will say this the r32 is a nice car but it's underpowered and has rubbish haldex and is not as much fun to drive as an ed30 and is no where near as cheap to mod as an ed30. The only thing the r32 does is sound good but it was always going to sound good with a v6 but for me it's fwd with power and a diff or rwd for fun driving haldex is poo unless it's got a race haldex setup but it ETTO would be crap if we all liked the same cars (I do like the r32 but after owning one and modding one it's not for me)

Mods yes but way too many to stick in this little box

I remember when you had your 32 I was around when Wayne started the r32 oc site from day one and met some good guys on that site. Why are u in an ed30 If you like the 32 so much ?

Mainly down to milage. Not to mention the ed30 is cheaper. Boot space is a problem as I often carry a full load at least twice a week  :sad1:

For what its worth it really makes no difference to me... I just find it very amusing when evey GTI owner thinks he is faster than an R32 because people on a forum say a car is 'too heavy' or 'too slow' when in reality you put some track figures down and everyones comments change to 'we dont care', 'heard it all before', 'troll'  :scared:

As said.... it really makes no difference to me as I use mine as a daily driver and like to have a blast every now and then. I find the power much more difficult to get down on greasy roads in the ED30 and it does not handle as well as the R32.... granted you have to adopt 2 TOTALLY DIFFERENT driving styles to get the best out of both. tbh I think this is where much of the problem is... try driving a R32 like a GTi and you will struggle. I also found the R32 to be a totally different animal with the ESP off.  :happy2:

looking at if from another point of view, he had a MkV R32, and now has the MkV Ed30, but he preferred his R32 as an overall car.

And tbh he's not comparing modified vs stock, he comparing stock v stock.

For me stock ed30 v Stock R32, id take the R32 all day long.  If you were to change the Ed30 for a stock Golf R then id have the R instantly.

I love the haldex handling and grip of the Golf R, much more than i do the cupra, vRS etc, its just got to be driven completely different

Regarding the R32, in the grand scheme of things is 250hp actually slow as an everyday car?

Surprised how much quicker the R32 is than the Ed30 on lap times, especially considering the power to weight ratio when both are stock is neigh on identical.
