Mk7
« on: August 29, 2012, 07:21:39 pm »
They'll show it on 4th September in Berlin.

From my web trawling it will have a front quarter light due to the steep windscreen rake. Electric handbrake. Run flat tyres.

GTI will have 260bhp. Or probably not!
The R might have a carbon roof and retain the EA888.

Did anyone hear anything else?

So according to that, front quarter visibility will be crap like the Cupra's is (I like the rest of the Cupra and ain't no Cupra hater).

Electric handbrake? I hardly ever use one anyway, not even in my garage so the pads don't stick to wet discs. Something else to go wrong and a gimmick?

Run-flat tyres? OMG!! Aren't VW aware of what BMW users think of them - Didn't BMW drop them for good reason? - Another marketing gimmick?

The next generation R won't appear for a while if the usual timeline is followed.

I read very recently the GTI will have 217bhp, but a more impressive torque increase.

Not sure what you mean by a front quarter light?

Ultimately I don't think the MK7 GTI will deliver the sort of things most of us here are after.

....An extra pillar (fairly thin) like the Cupra has which joins the top of the A-pillar. Check out Tfsi_Mike's build thread for pics  :happy2:

....Yep  :happy2: Therefore a small-ish triangular window by the wing mirrors. You know the one! You're having a RR moment my friend!

I'd disagree...

The same has and had been said prior to the launch of each successive GTi from the MK4 onwards and 'we' still buy them in droves, VW will never go out on a limb and build a truly focused GTi imo..

Besides if they did we'd have to shut this place down as we'd all have nothing to moan about or mod

Personally i like the everyman appeal of the Golf GTi, always have and always will i guess and there's plenty of choice for a more hardcore hatch out there should i need one anyway  :happy2:

I agree with Beddie.

Apologies to those who have seen this pic of my T-shirt before but the message is surely spot on:

What are peoples views on the MK5 now we are almost onto the MK7?

Im currently looking for a new car...keep coming back to a MK5 after trawling the internet for hours and coming up with nothing similar.

I'm in denial. I don't want to believe it will have such a thing. Just reminds me of a people carrier.

I'm nearly 4 years into ed30 ownership and had a 'regular' gti before that, still a great car that make me smile every drive

I agree with everything there (it's why I bought a Golf), but you can't deny that the people who inhabit this forum wouldn't like a bit more out of the box. Just look at the excitement around the M135i, a car that ticks so many boxes for all of us (if you can get round the despicable looks that is!).

I can't justify a ED30, did almost 1000 miles last week so with soaring prices at the pumps I need an oil burner. I've found an 08 plate GT 140 with 22k on for £8.5k which I think is a bargain. My budget is £10.8k roughly. Tried looking at other cars but I like my VAGs and this seems to be a great car for the money.
