Destination for a 3-4 day trip?

For the 1st time in 11 years me and swmbo will be child free for 4 days so may use the opportunity to get away.

Looking for somewhere:

Cheap(ish)
3 hour flight
Warm
Not the usual holiday resort (city break?)
Good food
Interesting places to visit, not really into sitting by the pool all day.


Any suggestions?

i just got back from 4 days in Amsterdam, i dont drink or smoke  :grin: Was an awesome city and well worth the trip, was 30+ the entire time i was there!

I paid £220 for 3nights in a very good hotel (pm for details if you fancy it)

Loads of places to visit around the city and very chilled out.

Northern Italy? But not the tourist hot spots like Venice or Pisa. There's lots of beautiful Italian towns and lakes and the food is good and the folks friendly.

Berlin.  Very interesting place rich in history with no shortage of things to do and places to see and eat at.  Went a couple of years ago and left impressed.

Good call on Berlin!  :happy2:

It's far more interesting than you might expect.

I know it sounds cheesy but an open top bus tour is a great way to see all the architecture and get a simple historical overview without feeling you are back at school in a classroom. Lots of nightlife too.

P.S. - Quick trip to Autostadt in Wolfsburg (near Berlin) - The sacred birthplace of Volkswagen - Stunning expo.

If you have never been before I'd definitely recommend Venice too. Absolutely mesmerising place with so much history it will make your head spin. Worth paying a little extra and stopping in Venice rather than on the mainland too.

Nearer home Paris is a superb city to visit too. Loads to see there and you simply have to visit Versailles if you do.

Portugal.
Cheap, warm, food isn't amazing, but some delicious things! Approx 2 hour flight - Lisbon is a richly historical and beautiful city, although it's quite down at heel (I like that, but if you want somewhere really clean & tidy don't go). Lagos is a good place if you fancy the Algarve without going to a resort. Some stunning beaches and lovely swimming. 2 1/2 hour flight to Faro.

I love the country and the people are very chilled and melancholic-very different to the Spanish.

barcelona  :happy2: beach, culture and food was excellent and if your lucky go see barca play amazing or what I found really good for a weekend break for me and the misses very classy and good for couple Sardinia if your gonna break the bank or Tuscany

Went in the late-90's before it became a mega-popular destination for stag and hen do's.  At the time I was staggered by the cheapness of the beer, the beauty of the city and it's females!
