MDI Armrest install ?
« on: August 31, 2012, 09:26:20 am »
Hi im looking to do a mdi armrest install to pair up with an RNS 510, ive already got the ipod armrest dock just a couple of questions

1) will i need coding ( or is it possible to code using polar fis + advanced )
2) Do you need a special loom to run to the arm rest eg kauftek or is there an oem loom
3) i take it this will work with i phone
4) has anyone got links to the install or partnumbers
5) is there any known converters to convert the ipod armrest dock in to iphone compatability
I realise that this will not be the same as highline

Yes, as an iPOD not as a phone kit if its the MDI kit you have.

4) has anyone got links to the install or partnumbers

Cheers ive got an ipod dock, this is not compatable with .  if i can buy a convertor to enable play and charge through the dock rather than splashing out on the mdi ill just do that, otherwise ill be removing my ipod dock in favour of the MDI
Any idea of a convertor then mate ?

MDI so much better

Ability play music from USB, i find sound quality is better as well.

Cant comment on Ipod/Iphones as do not have one.

Installation very simple kinder.

Did not need any coding, just plug and play.

Worse part was running loom to arm rest without removing it.

Works really well from both an iPhone and iPod as my friend tried both when we installed his. The mdi also fully shows up on the rns units and rcd510 (touch screen versions basically) so you can see full track and album details. It also charges iPhones.

You only need to remove the plastic top And rear of the armrest, the wiring you can wiggle down the inside of the centre console  :happy2:
VCDS cable HEX-USB+CAN. New but can do the basics including coding

Hi Eddie-NL,

have you got retro fit MDI kits?

what's required to change out an existing 6 disc change and replace with an mdi setup in the armrest?

cheers
