Car judders when on idle
« on: September 02, 2012, 01:43:35 am »
I have been having trouble when my engine is on and I come to a stop. It is worst when the engine has fully warmed. The car is shaking every now and then. What could this be?

Are they very low thumps !

I have this sometimes on idle and have been advised its normal, it's the car burning unused fuel !

I have experience this is on two other cars but they were both R32 like mine so am not 100% if this is an R32 behaviour or happens on other MK5.

Mine isn't a R32, but at same time it judders quite a bit, like the engine is misfiring, but the revs stays the same?!

Possibly PCV, lots of people mention it.
Worth taking your off and making sure the seal is good (check for oil etc)

replaced mine today, not driven yet, but im pretty sure there was air leakage (splattered bits of oil around tthe  bottom)

What's this PCV you are talking about Steve? And is it easy to do yourself?

One which goes on the top on the engine block..

I replaced mine, seems a bit better but i don't think it was screwed on tight....

The one i removed was actually fine. Now i have removed it, i think it was already replaced at some stage..

SOLD!! :(

Is there an easy way to change the larger breather pipe that fits in from the pcv to the lower part of the engine?  :happy2:
If it's not broke, Mod it.....

Noticed mine doing this today. I replaced my PCV earlier in the year.

Could be normal

I'm not too sure how to check th PCV?

Pull the dipstick out or remove the oil cap when the engine is running smoothly, it should start to run rough/lumpy if the PCV is failing  :happy2:

If you notice no change it may be because your PCV has already failed, either way for the cost (£27) and time (10mins) involved i'd replace it anyway to rule it out

I'm afraid I'd have to disagree with you there - if the car runs lumpy when the dipstick is pulled out, this does not constitute that the PCV is failing...however if it does not run any lumpier when the dipstick is removed, chances are there is a problem with the PCV  :happy2:
