EDITION 30 erratic idle
« on: September 04, 2012, 08:16:46 am »
Hi Gents
My 57 Edition 30 DSG has just started to exhibit fluctuating idle speed when I am sitting at a light or put the car into neutral. It is juddery whilst slowing down too. Should I check DV & PCV valves and cool packs? I used Sainsburys 97 octane fuel for the first time last fill - could it be petrol related?
Thanks.

I'd look at both, especially if you've not inspected either since you've had the car. if your car is remapped and your running an early rev DV , you might have a split or torn valve. but it's a good place to start is the PCV. Very much doubt coil packs would give you poor idle ,

Oh and put 99 octane in as the cars ment to run on 98 and above fella

I'm assuming you took advantage of the 10p off voucher. I am planning on doing that. I'm 99% sure it won't be the petrol unless yours is remapped to run on the good stuff (99 oct).

Most k04 TFSI's misfire on idle, mine did before and after Revo stage 1, but if you're noticing it whilst slowing down it must be something else.

Do the usual, fit latest PCV if you haven't got it already, new plugs if they are getting close to needing to be changed, check your cam follower (you may as well change it whilst your there) and Rev D (or the latest trend seems to be G) diverter valve.

I think coil packs are usually good or bad, not in between, unless they are corroding?

I think people are too quick to blame fuel

Thanks for the replies.
I've had the Ed 30 for 10 months now and this is the first sniff of a misfire/ erratic idle, it being rock solid til now. The revs fluctuate from 750-800 right up to 1500 then slowly down again to settle momentarily before repeating the cycle. Making driving a juddery affair in traffic.
I'll report back shortly. Thanks again fellas.

(is there any way of putting up a little QuickTime here of the rev counter to illustrate the problem??)

Had my Edition 30 looked at by Reuben at Tuningwerkes in Croydon today who diagnosed PCV valve failure - just as Steve said!

Reuben dropped me at the nearest rail station to his premises after a scan and called me a few hours later after a road test to say the car was ready, with new PCV valve and gasket fitted. Feels like a new car.
Thanks for your replies and thanks to Reuben for his speedy and efficient service.
