Been looking for a DAB aerial but with having a 2005 model I don't have a aerial on the roof, it's built into the tailgate.  I wanted to stay OEM and didn't want a stick on aerial in the windscreen, found this off Ed.

DAB amplifier off a MK6.  After a bit of a search and a read on the net I replaced the left hand tailgate unit found in mine, see below.

The DAB version has a double Fakra on it so I had to source some connectors.  Couldn't find where so bought a few leads with connectors on, they come off easy and it wasn't much additional outlay

Took the plug off and fitted it to my long extension lead that goes through the tailgate, headlining and into the DAB connector on the RCD510

Lashed it all up and it worked, had AM and FM as well, once tested tidied it all up and job done. Opens up a load more channels and as a bonus reception by me is pretty good.

Was this easy enough to do?
Been looking to do something like this for my 05 when my new radio comes, would love to hear any tips you may have.

Pretty straightforward to be honest, trickiest bit was feeding the cable through the tailgate grommet.  There's a how to here but no pictures

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=263921.0

You'll need the amplifier I have and it goes on the left as you look at the rear of the car.  Fitting is easy.  You'll also need a twin Fakra connector and a long lead to get to the front of the car.

I got my double connector here

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121040328853?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

And the long lead to the stereo here

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390874796401?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

You'll need to remove the straight connector off the long lead (clips off easy) and put the double connector on the lead instead.  Remove the right angled connector on the other end and feed through the boot , grommet, headlining and into the stereo.  Put the right angled connector back on and plug into you DAB socket on your stereo.

Hi mate, I've just installed the same amp in mine. Do you have two cables going into the amp or just the one for the DAB socket on the RCD?

This all looks great bigmig and defo the way I wanna go with my K03 '05 AXX GTI! Quick question - did you have any trouble swapping midline for highline? I bought highline clock off EBay, but everyone with VCDS is telling me it's a nightmare to swap? Any clues? I'm looking to swap in a MFSW too (mines DSG)
How did she know?

Hi mate, I've just installed the same amp in mine. Do you have two cables going into the amp or just the one for the DAB socket on the RCD?

I wired the remaining pin (pin 2) on the new DAB amp to the original Fakra in the boot that the old amp ran to, I bought a 1m lead off Ebay for this.

I'd had a fault code thrown up without this cable as I assume the ECU saw this was open circuit .  Last time I checked the fault codes I had none with regards to the stereo.  HTH :happy2:

No trouble at all as Kalu did it all for me.     He needed to get around the Immo issue and I left him with the new dash for an hour then showed back up at his house and he swapped in 20 mins, drop him a pm.  If you're too far away I'm sure I remember the option of posting the dash to him and him then giving you a quick run through on the install  via e-mail or pm's.  :happy2:

Thanks that's what I've done already but it's not working - radio not seeing a dab aerial, but sees the two others for fm/am. Better get the multimeter out and check the 6m fakra cable for dab.

@toms85 Apologies if you're already doing this but you are going into the DAB socket on the back of your head unit aren't you ?

Connector Number 1 below on the Rcd510 .(if that's the head unit you're using ?)

Thanks - sorted it in the end was something simple.. the right angled fakra connector which plugs into the dab socket on the Rcd was a bit loose and not making contact with the centre pin. Adjusted the plug with a needle so it fitted more snugly and bingo dab started working!
