an improved engine (no cam follower issues).
There is a nasty timing chain tensioner issue with the EA888. It's a much more expensive fix than a cam follower.

Only been a few instances of that failing. R32 has the same concern.

At least there's no belt to change every 4 years I suppose  :smiley:

I think Stage 1 map brings them to 310bhp. The stock clutch isn't great apparently if you buy a manual and there's a good chance of slip with a stage 1 map.

Slip, slip, sliding away! 

You "might" manage Stage 1 but (like me) plan on a £1k+ bill for an uprated clutch after that!   :laugh:

Back on topic, its not worth the jump in monies IMO. I went from a GTI to an Eddy and love it but when I bought mine a couple of years ago the difference was a lot less so less of a factor.

If you can wait, get an R when money allows!  :happy2:

Yip same here I went from a stage 2+ GTi to a 2+ Eddy and tbh I had equal amounts of fun in the GTI, at 6k its not worth the upgrade although it is a fair bit quicker at that state of tune.

3k worth of second had tuning parts will see rekindle your love for the GTI

Hi mate..it's not worth splashing  all that money upgrading from a gti to a ed30...I got to the point where I stopped modding my Eddie as I had traction issues due to the power so I sold it & brought a golfR..if you decide to get a golfR you won't be disappointed,I'm currently on GIAC extreme map with dsg stg3 map pushing out around 340-350bhp with similar lbft...it's awesome,no more issues with traction now...

Have decided that my next car will be a golf R, have seen a couple already creeping under 20k so hopefully by this time next year I might be in the position to get one:-)

I have had my gti for a year and a half and was thinking about moving to an Edition 30. Went and had a look at one in Peterborough 5 door in white with 65k on the clock, 2008 model with mfsw and parking sensors, no other obvious upgrades, radio was a basic vw one, up for £11995.

Condition was ok but me being a perfectionist my 2005 tornado red is in better condition. My gti has 74k on the clock so not a great difference in mileage. Both have full service history.

So I asked how much to part ex, dealer would not move on price of Eddie £11995, offered me £5500 for mine, I know I would prob get about £6500 for mine if I sold privately (hopefully).

So the question is, is an editon 30 3 years younger than mine really worth £6495 more than my 2005 gti!

Personally I don't think so, with that amount of money I could run my current car for a few more years and spend quite alot on remaps, upgrades etc.

Also I have noticed that mk6 gti prices are getting pretty close to top end Eddie prices.

I know the Eddie is a limited addition but not worth the extra for me at the moment.


By going to a dealer you are probably paying a couple of grand for a hassle free change over you could sell yours privately and then go and find a Private ED30 save yourself maybe £2.5 - £3K but there is a lot more hassle involved and we know how dealers rip you off but there are in business to make money

I was looking at Ed30's this morning and reckon 10K will now get you a good one. 12 seems a lot. It'll be hard finding one in the colour you want though.
