Ok guys, i have a mkv golf 1.9 tdi se 06 plate. i have a check engline light on and went to Rich yesterday to get it scanned, the following fault came up

001025 - EGR System
               P0401 - 000 - Insufficient Flow
             Freeze Frame:
                    Fault Status: 01110000
                    Fault Priority: 0
                    Fault Frequency: 3
                    Mileage: 92622 km
                    Time Indication: 0
                    Date: 2000.00.00
                    Time: 15:09:36

             Freeze Frame:

i have my car booked in tommorow to CLEAN the EGR valve at VW dealer at a quoted price of £160. recieved a call from them saying we cannot guarantee that the engine light will go off with this procedure or it might go off and come back on in say a week. he said replacing the EGR valve definelty cure the problem but quoted £560.

anyone shed some light on this, thanks in advance

EGR valves get very dirty on deisel cars, a lot more if you drive short distances.

Cleaning the crap out of the EGR value will normally remove the fault, unless you EGR value is sticking or worn.

Get it cleaned, don't pay out that money.......

Get the EGR delete kit from Darkside and get your tuner to erase the fault that comes after the removal

http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/darkside-1-9-8v-pd105-2-0-16v-tdi-pd-ppd-and-cr-egr-delete-race-pipe.html

Done the trick for me  :happy2:

Lol at that price!

Remove the egr yourself and give it a good clean, it should fix it, for that sort of money you can get a remap which includes a rolling road and an egr delete from someone like r-tech to eliminate the problem reoccurring!

Rich...you would be very unlucky to mess is up. It's only 3 bolts that hold it on.

Start be removing the clip that holds the hose in then pull that out. Then undo the 3 bolts that hold the anti-shudder valve to the egr, one bolt is longer from memory and holds both the asv and egr to the manifold. Disconnect the plug and remove asv. You should now be left with 2 screws holding the egr on plus 2 on the connecting metal pipe on the right hand side. Disconnect the plug and there you go.

I just used carb cleaner to clean it. I'd suggest wearing rubber gloves if you do it otherwise your hands will be black for weeks.

Have a look in my members ride for pics of what the asv and egr look like when removed  :happy2:
