If I had a battery drain issue with the RNS510...
« on: September 05, 2012, 11:23:53 pm »
Ok this is a bit of a hypothetical question but if I had a battery drain issue with the RNS510 (canbus gateway related) would I get a flat battery if the car was left parked overnight or would it need a longer time?

Without traction power is nothing!

I would say its more than enough to drain ur battery. In some cases it takes only few hours. Off course it depends on your battery size etc.

Ed when I installed the polar with the new gateway, the gateway came up with the error  "No response from controller" when scanned with vcds.
I had a word with mun100 who programs the software for polar and he sent me an unreleased beta version firmware to see if it cured my problem. The polar screen appeared in the mfd but a vcds scan still showed the "No response from controller" error.

I was told that I shouldn't have a battery drain problem with the polar installed even with the old gateway. I elected to use the old gateway with the polar on the strength of this but with the knowledge that the next firmware update for the polar in a couple of weeks time will address my problem with the newer gateway.

In the meantime I want to be reassured that if my battery isn't flat in the morning then the polar is doing its job.
