A short drive
« on: September 06, 2012, 01:51:38 am »
Hi folks, just thought I'd share this wee trip I've just had.

I have just driven 525 miles with only one stop in my Mk5 Gti from Scotland to London. Averaged around/about 40mpg travelling mostly at 75 mph. Only mod on the car is stage 1 bluefin.

Car drove faultlessly, very comfortable, smooth and made a fairly long drive an absolute breeze. Love this car :happy2:

Did you notice an increase in MPG with the Bluefin map?

Try as I might, I can't get near to that sort of MPG.

i have removed my bluefin and noticed a drop off in mpg... although this could coincide with me switching to v-power lately.

I averaged exactly 1mpg better with the blufin.

I think I might get marginally better mpg with the bluefin believe it or not. I do run Tesco Momentum 99 all the time.

I find that Running higher octane fuel in this car, like momentum or v-power definately returns better mpg and more power.

That MPG is only a bit short of what I got driving from cheshire to Inverness in mine (about 42mpg). This sort of use is what the GTI is all about (and what the GT stands for). Its a comfortable, quick long distance cruiser. Not a time attack track weapon that people make it into

+1    I've had two superb grand tours to Estonia in my GTI. Round trips of about 3,600 miles each time and my car never missed a beat. Day upon day of driving and always smooth and comfortable! Also averaged 39mpg last time and that includes Autobahn driving.  :happy2:

If I cruise at a steady 40, 50, 60 mph my car will return around 45mpg.

I had a mk4 2.0 8v Gti (i know that this car did not deserve to be called a gti) before this and my mk5 Gti returns better mpg no matter how I drive it. Amazing machine considering the massive difference in performance.

I was having a chat with my dealer after Speedy McQueen (Cars name) flew through his 40,000 service. 56 plate

Was highlighting how good the GTI is to be super fun to drive whilst if you don a pair of grey carful pants you can easily get 40-45 mpg.

He looked at me like i was speaking bul#£*%t.
