Hi from a n00b!!!
« on: November 22, 2008, 05:14:47 am »
Hello GTIists,

Any of you who happened to be a SEAT owner in a previous life may have stumbled accross me on cupranet sometime over the years, plus I haunt a few of the other VAG forums from time to time.
I'm not very interesting, so on to the car: Grey 5 door early mk5 GTI (54 plate), some slight enhancements such as BBS VZ033 wheels in 8x18 flavour (similar to BBS COs), a remap by the slightly suspicious chippeduk which actually works fine and it sits on a set of Koni FSDs.
If you want a picture of the car I suggest you buy a copy of the December 08 edition of Volkswagen Driver magazine as both my ugly mug and car feature in there!!!

Strange user name? Well most of 'em are, this one comes from the days of my messing about with SEAT Ibiza TDIs when I got bored of the lacklustre VWs of around 10 years ago: Diesel Tuning was just starting to become popular and the Ibiza TDI was the lightest chassis that had the TDI engine at the time, so there was method in my madness. Beezer=Ibiza & Diesel= yep that's it!!! However I'm not stranger to VW GTIs and their close relations. My first car was a Scirocco GTI about 22 years ago and I've been driving modified VAG stuff ever since. I really should have grown out of it all by now but I just haven't managed to so far.

Over the years I've had a mk2 Ibiza, mk3 Ibiza, mk4 Ibiza, all TDIs and all modified!! Recognise a pattern here? I didn't keep the mk4 very long at all though as despite being very quick once modified it just didn't have the spark of the earlier lightweight cars. That was the point I went back to VWs again. And I also had a Leon Cupra 1.8t amongst the Ibizas. Been thinking about getting a mk2 Ibiza Cupra as a town runabout over the winter so I don't have to get my BBSs dirty!!!!

I was thinking about getting my original 17s painted black for winter use, but have held off thinking that as they will be the ones I sell the car on it may be best to leave them the standard colour so I may look out for some manky Monza IIs on ebay or the forums and get them sprayed black instead.

I don't actually have any further plans to change the car to be honest. I'm notorious for chopping and changing my cars but I actually really like the GTI as it is right now, and aided with the 'dead in the water' state of the car market I have probably lost about £4k on the car in the 10 months I've owned it so my plans at the moment are to keep her and uprate as things wear out.
So if the turbo blows next week I'll be looking to upgrade that for example!!! Hopefully it won't as I don't expect the Missus would appreciate a greasy, sooty second hand KO4 for her Christmas prezzie!
The brakes are getting a little near the end of their life so some Cupra or R32 fronts may be sought next though.....plenty of room behind the BBSs for those.
