Service History Advice Please
« on: December 22, 2011, 11:36:14 am »
I'm looking at buying an Edition 30, but I'd really appreciate some advice on the service history first. The current service history is as follows:

May 2008 Registered

28-05-09        7437 Miles
Oil Change

08/07/10        15,665
Oil Change
Interval Service
Longlife Oil Used
Dust & Pollen Filter Insert Replaced

09/04/11        25829
Oil Change Service
Interval Service
Dust & Pollen Filter Insert Replaced

03/12/11        35401
Oil Change service
Brake Fluid change

I have persuaded them to do the cambelt, but I'm concerned about the Fuel filter, air filter and plugs as I can't see that they've ever been changed.

Thanks

You could replace the plugs and air filter yourself for next to nowt so I wouldn't worry to much!  :happy2:

They are minor things that you can do as a person. In the books i think spark plugs are like at 40k or 60k i think ?

I change my  /filter/oil/ etc every 3-5K and dont go by the book. Plugs every 10-20K. Crucial parts like cambelt is 40k or 4 years, along with DSG oil/filter change is along them timelines which will go in for VW. But basic servicing is done by myself. (Keep hold of receipts and mileage when replaced)

I think it wil be fine the oil has been changed every 10 k so plugs and air filter being changed wont cause any damage i dont think as long as you change them right away it should be fine and cambelt if its not snapped then doesnt matter if it was changed or not as long as u change it right away aswell if its a dsg i wouldnt go near it if the dsg oil and filter wasnt done at 40k or 4 years. my vw dealer told me that it was 40k for dsg with no time limit but im pretty sure someone over on r32 oc go an official letter from vw uk saying its 40k or 4 years
