Gti and ED30 advice

Hi guys new to the forum! Currently selling my Porsche 911 (bit of a sales plug I know, but its here! http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1052923.htm)

To replace it I'm after a MK5 Golf GTI, in terms of "real world" performance how does a remapped Gti stand against a remapped ED30?

I love the ED30 but I could make a GTI almost as the same as the edition from less money apart from the bigger turbo

A remapped GTI wouldnt be close to a mapped ED30, theres about 50bhp in it

For tuning potential its ED30 everytime.

Remap = £550
TBE exhaust = £1000
Intake = £150

Relative power gains:

GTI: 250hp (from 200hp)
ED30: (300-310hp (from 230hp)

So for the same money spent on mods, the power gains are much more on the ED30...

ED30's are coming down to pretty reasonable prices too  

In terms of 'real world' performance, on the road they are quite similar to be honest. A remapped ED30 doesn't stray too far away from me on the road, but is obviously that little bit faster!!

I agree with what's already been said - The Ed30 is potentially a wee bit faster but there's very little in it unless you are referring to jonnyc's lightweight Ed30.

I love Porsches but the great thing about the Mk5 GTI/Ed30 is how good an allrounder it is, especially the 5-door version.

if you can live with the fact you didnt buy an ED30 then 
Consider the resale too , ED30 although oversold should still hold its value better than a GTI
Depends how much cash you have , but I could argue that the price differential may allow you to buy an LSD.

Full house mods on both = ED30 faster
mid mods on ED30 , full house on GTI = GTI wins

as stated ED30 has more 'headroom'  but you need various upgrades to be able to utilise the full hp.

Drive both , you may prefer the total lagless GTI. Although it may have more hp it doesnt make you faster...
If youve got the money its ED30  + LSD + suspension = woohooo

A situation NEVER to be repeated now I have the DSG remap   ie no unnecessary kickdowns in manual again

Secondly - it must be very painful to sell the Porsche - it looks FANTASTIC 

Depends on how far the credit crunch has forced you and your definition of "re-evaluation"!! I'd go GTI (no offence to the ED30 owners)

The real world difference isn't that much (well certainly not in comparison to a Porsche!)

Thanks for the kind words about my car guys, it is difficult to sell the Porsche as I do love it so much and even though it is "low spec" for a Porsche its much quicker than I thought! Mine weighs 1320kgs because its a manual Carrera 2 with 300bhp!

So I want something that is still very quick and cheaper to buy.

Never been in a MK5 GTI but know do you guys find the interior quality? I've heard conflicting reports saying its very nivce and some reports have said its quite cheap?

....Some people are critical of the Mk5 GTI's interior. Personally I much prefer it to the Mk6 which has had its interior blinged up silver components added to match the Audi style - I hate that new steering wheel, it's so fussy.

Modern Porsche interiors are outstanding and styled very appropriately for the car, but I see the GTI as a funkier form of transport and not pretentiously trying to be a luxury limo.

It all comes down to your personal expectations.

Btw, the standard seats are excellent.
