Hi Guys,
This is my first post, which makes me a n00b on here, and I have NO idea about cars and how to keep them running short of paying hideous amounts of my hard earned money to the dealership historically and never really getting much apart from being fobbed off and if i'm lucky a problem fixed.
I thought I'd turn to those that would actually be able to help and maybe even put it into some form of translated english that I could understand... and if I'm really lucky, I may get someone to show me a thing or two.
Anyway, I jumped on the end of this post as to me it seems the closest to what I am experiencing, and didn't want to create a new thread without searching, gladly I found this as I don't think I would have known what else to look for.
Right;
My Car: 2006 VW Golf 1.9 TDI SE (MkV)
My symptoms: Over the last couple of months, the yellow engine light, came on and a message saying "emmisions garage!" appeared on the display where the clock is, it stayed for about a week, then went off and stopped saying the message for a while after, then it appeared randomly again, and disappeared again... this has been on and off over the last couple of months.
My fiancee and I took it on a road trip to Italy end of August, and it did us proud, no problems what-so-ever, and just saturday night, the light came on again and the message, however this time, the performance of the car has decreased immensly, like the turbo isn't kicking in.
Now, a week after i bought the car (Oct 2010), the turbo stopped working (the dealer said it had gone into "Limp Home Mode") and they took it in, discovered the turbo to be faulty and replaced under warranty(!!), since then, on and off it's happened again, I randomly discovered that if while driving i flick the ignotion off, and back on it clears this "Limp Home Mode" and the turbo starts working again... whether this is bad for the car or not I don't know but it seems to work every time.
Now, I don't have any VAG-COM diagnostic system or anything to tell me what's wrong, nor do I have any mechanical knowledge to go looking for physical problems or testing for any, but I'm hoping someone here does/can.
If from the symptoms I have provided someone can assist in anyway at all I would be ever so grateful, however if more answers are needed, providing I CAN answer them with the limited knowledge I have, I will do my best.
Thank you so much to whoever lends an ear and some grey matter to my situation... I am hopeful that it can get resolved quickly as Bob (The name my Fiancee gave my car
) is currently off the road pending a successfull diagnosis and correct repair.
All the best folks,
Christian.
