GTI buying advice - higher miles OK?
« on: September 12, 2012, 04:42:08 pm »
Going to look at a steel grey 5dr '05 GTI with 92k on the clock (3 owners, last one for 4 years). It's got a full documented history with cam belt done at 69k, heated leather interior, cruise control, centre arm rest, MFSW, 18" Monzas freshly refurbed plus usual spec interior. It's up for £6995 with full MOT and 3 months Warranty.
How's that sound price wise ?
Also, should I be concerned about the mileage - seems fairly high but it has been well looked after (apparently!)
I've had a 140tdi for 18 months now so know what to look for but all help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Check the w-pump was changed as part of the belt-kit and not just checked, ie looked at ! ! !

Also for an 05 with 92k the price seems strong, I paid 6k for a mint 1 owner done 70k wth full vag history, and that was 6 months ago !

Thanks for that, it's actually a 55 reg (my mistake) but I guess that won't make any difference. I'll check the w/pump out as well.
The car is at a dealers and I want to p/x my '04 2.0 tdi, I'll see what deal we can come to if the cars right

For a garage that's not too bad of a price but do you know of the garage or googled them for horror stories?

When I was looking for my gti the garages were asking £9995 for 05 plates between 70-80k

If you're looking at cars around 05 reg my old car that I've just traded in is up for sale at a garage near Crewe. It's got 2 prev owners with 55k. It's a 5 door, cloth interior, midline in DBP. Granted not the top spec by any means but it never missed a beat for me. Full Vw history. Only sold it for a mk6 gti.

Feel free to pm any questions if you are going to look at it

Andy

Thanks for that.
The garage is Lawson cars near Middlesborough, it's a well respected German specialist that's been around 30 years or so.

.
As others will also tell you, the mileage is not an issue with most German cars and Volkswagens in particular. The service history and making sure that the VW recommended servicing like cambelts etc is far more important.

My car is a 05-plate, 06-build GTI and I have driven 103,000 miles from new and still going very strong.

Volkswagen change their build spec every July, so that's why you can have a build year which is ahead of the plate registration year.
