Making up auto levelling loom...
« on: September 13, 2012, 12:48:54 pm »
Hey guys,
Seeing as I seem to have lost the thread I was getting advice on, I've decided to start again!

I've recently got my Xenons, and I've got the level sensors and control modual.

I'm going to make the loom up myself. I've just got the plugs for the sensors and modual, but just need to know what terminals they take? Any ideas??

Also when it comes to connecting the 2 CAN wires, Apart from right up at the Can gateway, where can they be connected too?

Cheers.

Is a wiring diagram available for that?

Cheers

I found it easier to solder on to the wires there than on to the gateway wiring

Nice to see someone else is attempting this! I fitted the loom to my tdi after making it up from scratch

Some advice from my experience:

I made separate looms: so an engine bay loom which I then put the pins into the main connector for the module once it had been plumbed in (this included the front sensor and the two headlights)

A seperate loom for the rear sensor which once fed in was then pinned up and plugged in

Same with the wiring to go behind the heater controls to the steering column and fuse panel

If I can dig out my wiring diagrams I made I'll see if I can post them up if I remember!

Good luck!

I don't think the loom is too difficult to make, just knowing the right lengths for each part

I will probably price one up soon to see if it will be competitive against the kufatec version

Thanks for the advice.

I already had in mind making up separate looms, glad its not a silly idea now.

I've got a wiring diagram, but anything else that goes together and helps would be great.

What size wire did you use? I think im going to use 1mm, but reckon 0.5mm would be fine.......

As far as cost goes, its not going to cost anywhere near the £89.00 (+ p+p) that kufatec charge.

The 2 sensor plugs and control module plug - £8
Control module pins (min 100!  :fighting: ) - £6
A 100m roll of cable shouldn't cost me anything, but worst case £10 - £15
Couple of rolls of 'fluffy' tape won't cost me anything.

Had a look at the sensors tonight, just need to work out which ones which and how they go on

Cheers

you need 3 types of terminals

as found on repair wires
000 979 009E for Xenon control module
000 979 019E for auto levellers and for in the headlight plug
000 979 025E for the CECM

you would also require twisted can wiring

Yea got all the terminals, well they're on their way!

Just on the look out for the can wire, VW supply it in 10m packs, I probably only need 2m!

where did you get the terminals for the CECM?

VW have cut back on the terminals that are available

009 and 019 terminals can be ordered at vw
025 you have to buy the repair wire

You can order all the terminals from tps,

I used a roll of yellow wire I got from rs components 109m and still got plenty left- I would recommend the multi conductor with the thicker insulator

Part number on rs wire : 717-4041 it's 0.5mm square but got a thicker insulator on it -handy just in case it rubs against something...particularly as its going to be going under the car too... I wrapped all my internal wiring looms in the fabric webbing and external looms got the same treatment

The yellow wire means you can use a sharpie to put dashes on each wire to help identify (something our old electronics teacher taught us.lol)

As for the terminals...balls to minimum of 100! They let me order as few as I wanted...may just be a policy at your local place...

If you need terminals for the CECM send me a pm with your address and I'll pop a bunch of wire ends in the post for you, I've got a few dozen sitting here doing nothing!

I'd like to know that too, as my brothers searched the system at his work and I've just been to tps, and both can only come up with repair wires. Which I think I'm going to have to settle for.

Cheers.

Just been measuring up for the rear loom.

Want to make it up before removing any trim, but not sure where the wires are going to exit to the wheel arch..? Is there a grommet behind the boot side panel..?

Cheers
