Is this an MFD2? +How to add Bluetooth?
« on: September 02, 2012, 09:43:33 am »
Hi - due to pick up my ED30 on Saturday....

It's got this head unit which I think (from reading around on here) is an RNS MFD2 - am I right?

I need to get bluetooth added, and would prefer it to be integrated rather than going down the Parrot route.  I've got 4 questions:

1) If I get a FISCON bluetooth kit, I appreciate this will integrate the phone functions with the head unit & MFSW, but will I be able to stream audio via bluetooth to play music from my A2DP-enabled phone (Galaxy S3)?

2) Anyone recommend a place to get this installed in the NW area?

3) I can see from reading around on here, that the RNS510 is the head unit to aspire to - if I was able to upgrade at some point, would I simply be able to keep the FISCON unit to bluetooth-enable the RNS510?

4) Not sure if the car is aux-enabled at the moment - the ad said "Radio/CD (Instead Of In Car Entertainment)" - am I likely to have an aux in?  If it's an ipod lead (I don't have an ipod), could I get an ipod-to-3.5mm jack adapter?

Any comments much appreciated...

Cheers!

Save up and get an rns. A lot less faff. I've got this HU. what you'll spend on getting all the extras, fitting, coding etc you're quarter way to rns pricing. even the older revision c goes for 500quid.

But I thought the RNS510 doesn't have bluetooth by default either?  Thought you still have to get a Bluetooth add-on unit...

so I was wondering if I would still have the option of upgrading the head unit to a RNS510 at a later date, and I would be able to use the same bluetooth unit on this current MFD2 and the upgrade RNS510?

Bluetooth is approx £140ish. No idea if it will work with your current headunit

I called to find out which head unit option is in this car, and it's the 6 CD-changer in the armrest (rather than the ipod dock option).

Is it simple to add an aux-in 3.5mm jack to this head unit - and do you lose any functionality by doing so?

I think the AUX in is pretty much plug and play. I dont think it will give you any option to skip track via head unit or MFSW as its just letting another media source play via the cars HU/speakers. Sorry, should have been clearer on earlier post. RNS is not equiped with bluetooth as standard, but what the heck...whats another 140 green queens between HU's????

Fiscon does not work with an MFD2 - has to be an RNS series HU

The iPod dock can be swapped for the CD changer as it uses the same wiring.
