I saw this on the BBC1 News today. I didn't realise it was in Russia?

My first thought was that had he been wearing a seatbelt he would have probably been badly injured.

Quite a few years back one of my work mates had a bad smash in Thetford, (60 limit) came round a bend at 60/70 (he was not sure which) and slid straight off the road (Diseasal spill) into a 4ft wide tree trunk, he was driving his company's Rover 416 SLI, engine and gearbox ended up being where the back seat meets the boot, police found the cars battery 120yds down the side of the road, the only thing that saved his life was he was ejected out of the side window due to him not wearing his seatbelt (he broke his left leg in 4 places and had 6 stitches on his head/face where he went through the side window), police turned up and told him point blank had he been wearing setbelt he would have died  :scared:, but then issued him an on the spot fine for not wearing it  :signLOL:

I reckon that there is no way you can claim that a seatbelt will always save your life or vica-versa. It's simple: If your number is up, it's up. And if it's not up yet.... Enjoy life! :happy2:

Btw I always wear a safety belt and prefer to do so although I have driven for nearly 50 years back in the days when you didn't have to or even have them!

Jeez!

I Had quite a bad crash, few years ago.

On my own, late at night, country road, black ice just before a bend.

Rolled the car quite a few times, was told by police, and paramedics That if I hadn't been wearing my seatbelt I'd have died. So my seatbelts on all the time now!!!

I hope you didn't hurt your Hoo Hoo Dillies, Rach!

Coincidentally I also rolled a big Ford Zodiac on black ice in the Cotswolds early one christmas morning on my way to near Brum-ingham. The car came to a rest with me hanging upside down in my safety belt...  Giggling! A magnum (very large) bottle of champagne travelling on the back seat had just missed my head.

Whilst this is probably true, there are certain known high risk factors for death in/following a road traffic collision, one of which is being ejected from the vehicle.

They do enough crash tests on cars for me to be happy knowing I am far safer wearing one than by not wearing one.

What was horrible tho was when airbags in the USA were being calibrated to withstand the forces of people not wearing seat belts, which subsequently went off with such force that some people who were wearing seat belts were killed who would have otherwise been unscathed.

The driver must have utterly soiled himself. Bloody hell, talk about a near death experience!
