Thanks for informing us about that, Tortaruga  :happy2:

When the street storm drains were overwhelmed by 3 days of heavy non-stop rain a few months ago, human feces were spewed out of the manhole covers.

human faeces were spewed out of the manhole covers.

Therefore you have a combined sewer. The systems are supposed to be designed to handle heavy weather, save for a once in 30 year event.
BTW I'm not a drainage engineer, but my work sometimes involves dealing with these things.

I'm not anti-washing at home. I just think it's important people know that there may be consequences to their actions. It's not illegal so you can do as you please!

Round my way the road drains are combined with the sewage but the drains for the water from the roofs just go to soak aways so nothing gets put down there.

As for the dirty car comment further up I could see them bringing it illegal to have a dirty car like some eastern European countries

Soakaways are used in most new developments-part of SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage System). The water is attenuated and slowly releases into the ground water - this helps prevent flooding. Still any crap you put down those outlets does probably find its way into a watercourse somewhere.

How do they measure the dirtiness of your car? Is there a 'filth index' or something??

Mine goes straight into a combined waste system. The drive angles back towards the house and there is a custom drain to collect it and take it away. :happy2:

Is that just an Aco channel or a special one that has a silt or grease trap that you have to empty out now and again? It's not an oil interceptor is it?
