Had 40000 mile service today.... cam belt next
« on: September 22, 2012, 04:56:19 pm »
Afternnon guys... My car has been into VW this morning for its MOT and 40000 mile service luckily all FOC as I have 3 year service and warranty plan with them.... which was nice as just had to tax it .....  The car will be 4 years old next month I was informed that it will need the cam belt changing but this is not covered on the service plan... I was given a price of £468 this was for the belt and water pump... to be honest I thought it sounded a bit expensive and wondered if any of you guys could recommend anyone who is in the Staffordshire area.

Thought my dealer sounded expensive... not to worried about using a VW dealer for this as they do seem to struggle with timing them back up !!! which dealer did you use bud.

Thats the price from the main dealer, most of that will be labour. Can't help with your area but you should be able to find a VW Indy specialised in your area and knock 20-20% of that price.

Take a trip through the peak district to Sheffield and try Statllers  :happy2:

I live in Cheshire and had a great 55miles drive through the hills  :driver: got great service by Steve Jnr, got the engine mount bolts replaced (which should always be replaced when cam belt changed although VW don't do this unless you ask)

Cambelt, waterpump. . . And paid £300 Inc VAT.  :notworthy:

Genuine VW parts used also  :happy2:

Timing has been put back right also (which some places struggle with  :scared:)

They get loads of great reviews on here (Hurdy etc)

Do VW not still offer to price match an independent quote using genuine parts?

The drive up there will be worth it plus the savings will offset the fuel   Plus the cam timing will be right

I would love to try a stage 1 remap but cash is a bit tight as I have just had a DSG service and 12 months tax this week as well... good job today's visit was a freebie. so all in all it cost me a few quid this month  :scared:

Swapped wheels to 18" last month told the missus they are the same size tyres  :scared:

Had mine done here

Located in Longton, Stoke.  No issues, cannot remember the price but was cheaper than the VW garage

they wont change them until 60,000 miles. Just out of interest, did they use Long Life oil?

Seems a long stint for a set of plugs... where does it state 60k for the TFSI engine...  I have a 3 year service plan and Just makes me wonder if they would of changed them if I was paying the bill... The engine is running fine so I suppose why worry.
As for the oil I have no idea... but the schedule is set to time distance plus I do an oil and filter change after 6 months myself (Castrol Edge 5w 40)
