It's not really worth losing how ever many hundreds of £ to change cars just because the other is a nicer colour personally.
To change to the ED30 is a good upgrade, though if changing cars it's nice to sit inside and notice all the differences.
I would suggest a white MK6 GTD, guy at work has one and it looks amazing, the interior is great (seats/dash etc) and it's mapped to around 200bhp, but wit much better torque than a GTI could get. And within budget

^^^^ what Al says!

Seems VERY expensive TBH for that particular Eddy. Paid 12k for my Red ED30 with a bit higher spec than that over 6 months ago. Would suggest if you really want white, get a standard GTI and spend the extra ££££ on mods. Can't see the point of spending extra money just for a colour unless you can afford to throw it around.

Its not just the colour really , I just fancy something a bit newer TBH , even though I love driving what I have , so why not just get a newer one.... I dont really fancy a diesel , so it would have to be a GTI/Ed30. Mk6 is a good shout however because I do like the look of them.

Exactly, we'll said! It doesn't always have to be bigger and better. People choose new cars for different reasons, I don't think you always have to aspire to 'upgrade', or have something faster and better. If you like your GTI, then why not get the same thing, but a bit newer and a different colour? It might not be logical to some, but more fool them.

Consider what you'll be doing in the car. As much as i wanted an Edition 30 at the time, doing 10 miles total round trip to work isnt worth an extra few thousand pounds. Plus you cant argue with that white....

Changing a car rarely makes financial sense, but lets be honest its not the reason we buy or mod our cars. I think you would be looking at £6000 for yours as a part ex (more if you sell privately) if you can afford (your finances are your business) to continue and buy one of these cars if its what you want to do..... do it! you only live once, enjoy.

I was in a similar position 06 plate mk5 gti 36k all paid for, decided to part ex for a 2011 mk6 gti with 6.5k on the clock (loving it... just make sure financially your happy with your decision) and I think your right 16/17k for a mk6 with reasonable mileage  is more realistic.

Good luck with whatever you decide. :happy2:

Thanks for all the advice guys , I've just checked the GTI World website and that Ed30 has dropped by a grand to £13800.  :happy2: I might have a run up at the weekend and have a spoach around it , and the White GTI - they also have a couple of Mk6 3 Doors for a tad under £17K that look quite nice.

I know it's a nice car, but it looks like rock bottom spec, 5 years old, and remember, in a few months time the MKV will be 2 models old. I still think its expensive at £14k.

Thats very true , Im sure the value of both Mk5 and 6 will be depressed when the Mk7 is out.

Yeah, you could see those £16k - £17k MK6 GTIs pushed down a few grand. Worth waiting I'd say.

I would hold on to yours and get some more miles out of it! In terms of driving pleasure you will be getting exactly the same whether with mk5 or mk6 whichever you choose! Otherwise you will be just losing money in my view!

There are plenty of high mileage modded gtis here if high mileage is your concern

Thats another option for sure , my current GTI still drives fantastically well , and when I'm sitting in it I feel that I'm 'home' , the GTI is definately the perfect car for me. I just have that absurd notion we all get from time to time , that I fancy a change.

Heres a pic of my current car , just for reference
