Wheel bolts and spacers
« on: September 24, 2012, 01:01:22 pm »
I'm presently using 18" Monza 2s on my golf. If I were to use 5mm spacers, would the oem bolts be long enough or would I need to get longer ones?

I would have thought you would have needed longer bolts  :happy2:
5mm is 5mm lest of a thread holding your wheels on
If it's not broke, Mod it.....

Whilst I see your point, do you know what length of thread protrudes from the hub with the standard bolts+Monza combo?

Longer bolts on anything 5mm or greater... you should have min of 7 full turns into a hub I was told...

Measure yours and add 5mm, noting whether radiused or tapered... loads of places supply bolts to suit, try dpm performance...

I would test them first, before splashing out, i reckon you should be close to the originals being long enough. :happy2:
If you do a search on here for the member,  "The Wheelman'" one of his threads should come up with good info on replacement bolts, sizes.

My wheel fell off using standard bolts and a 5mm spacer.

£700 down the line I'm still paying for it! Get some extended ones mate :happy2:

Issue with running 5mm spacers is that the wheel doesn't sit on the hub any more and this can cause wheel wobble.  I would always advise running a 10mm hubcentric spacer and longer bolts to suit.

How can I do away with my 3mm buggers

Just to bump this up, if using longer bolts what do folk do about a locking wheel nut?
