Tornado red detailing
« on: September 24, 2012, 06:18:12 pm »
I have been in contact with Nathan (Greeners) from detail my ride after the amazing results from Saintsteves edy, and although I do think his prices are very reasonable, I can help thinking I could possibly have a go and do it myself........ :rolleye: I know I won't get the results as paying for it!!
If I was to get this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MEGUIARS-Professional-Polish-KIT-Ultra-Cut-Compound-Finishing-Polish-105-205-/110895629355?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Car_Care_Cleaning&hash=item19d1e5042b&_uhb=1#ht_877wt_922
What Wax would I have to have for the final coat? Also is that the stuff I need to try and get it somewhere near mirror finish??
Thanks :-D

For what it's worth, I thought mine was well up together but untill it was under the lights, revealed a lot of damage...

I wouldn't want to do it myself as unless you also buy a paint depth gauge aswell. You will not now how far you can go with the meguires kit specialised for VW's, which going by my car, paint thicknesses vary from panel to panel.

As much as I love to keep her polished/wax, I'd let DMR do it, so when you look after her in future, you will always achieve a better result, if you have no swirls to start with . :happy2:

Hope this helps  :happy2:

Poorboys Red Nattys paste wax is my favourite paste wax for TR.

let DMR do it from the outset, it will be a very reasonably priced job, probably cheaper than buying the gear and it WILL gain a much much better result!

The amount of people i know that have spent £300 on detailing gear only to sell it for £100 3 months later is mad after loosing interest and never getting that just detailed look

^^^^ sounds like your describing me, spent a small fortune on kit and products.  :signLOL:

Would have been cheaper and safer to take it to a professional Detailer to start of with. I like to think (without justification) that I know what I'm doing but compared to the results a professional can achieve my car looks like a polished turd, a shiney one but still a swirly turd. Can't wait to get the front end resprayed and then hand it over to someone for some proper TLC.

Suck it up and spend the money fella.  :happy2:

I have done mine myself: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,53197.0.html

More than happy with the results.

I bought this kit:  http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing-machines/das-6-pro-dual-action-polisher/das-6-pro-dual-action-polisher-menzerna-kit/prod_675.html

You could of had a pro do that with what you've spent  :innocent:

difficult to show your results with those pics... I have had someone try to machining mine, but they still didn't get anywhere near to a Pro Detailers standard.

Got all the swirls out of mine and did the wifes mini so have saved money in the long run. I also like doing it :happy2:
