Behave, you made a ridiculous statement. I rebuffed it. You'll get over it.

But I love foroms!

not convinced it is worth paying the genuine prices for the wheels when there is no real difference to the quality of the product !

For your information, that is what you said that is ridiculous - I quoted it in my original reply also, so there shouldn't be any confusion.

You won't find a replica Monza style alloy wheel that has the durability, strength, lightness and quality of finish of a genuine BBS Monza wheel. I think most round here would agree with that statement, and I think most choose genuine wheels based on those qualities. Anything else is a compromise, and I'd urge you not to put replica wheels with "jack of all trade" tyres on a GTI. You'll just make a sharp tool blunt.

Chill out guys!!
My original diamond cut 18" Monzas lasted quite well for a few years, until the inevitable stone chips etc took their toll and white worm set in. It has got really bad now, and after seeing some helpful advice on here I have decided to get mine refurbed and powder coated rather than diamond cut. They should still look good, but will have the advantage that whiteworm won't return. Depending on how much it will cost I have been thinking of getting the inserts done in black because I think those Mk6 shadows look really good!

what he said!

Best buy original but used Monzas 2 and you can refurb later on if need be!

Originals went on this site for as low as 400ish after refurb so worth to wait as the replicas are not comparable

refurbing second hands - does it not depend how many refurbs they have had, I thought originals were hollow and therefore to refurb back to diamond cut finish means taking back the metal.... thought I read that you should only do it a max of 2 times?

re andrew, not interested in arguing with you and with regards to talking rubbish, if you actually read my listing at no point did i say i was going to put as you quote << jack of all trades >> tyres on,,, i only use premium brands, and the best brands depending on need so stop passing silly comments please.
i simply was looking at the difference in oem wheels and after market, if it was as clear cut as oem is the only way to go then not a lot of people would buy after market but as you know there is very mixed responces and the bottom line is i am asking the question because i am trying to learn like most people on this site, we are here to discuss all things gti, to help each other with our cars and to familiarise ourselves with all things new or possibly better,,,, for you to come on and just stright say that i am talking rubbish is the kind of comment that is not welcome on sites like this.
if you have a contributing factor to MY LISTING then great, all comments welcome, but can i ask if all you have is crap then go and start your own listing and talk about your aerial or something, this is my last comment on you

Monza Shadows are the ones to get , they look miles better with the Black insert compared with the grey on the original Monza II. It should't cost any more to get the Black instead of the Grey when you shell out for a refurb.

hi guys, just bought my car and i like the monza 18 alloys but i need new tyres, the mk6 monzas which i beleive are the shadow 2 with the dark colour around the circular bit look nice,,,, do you think the mark 5 gti looks better with the normal monzas which are all the same colour finish or should i upgrade to the dark ones, seen them for around £340 brand new but replicas obviouslly.
the ones i have are brand new when i bought the car as the old ones where curbed etc and dealer said the diff in price for refurbing them was not that much dif than him putting new ones on so thats what he did to my delight but cant get these darker ones out of my mind.
because i have to buy new tyres i can get a deal on the new alloys if bought with tyres so may only cost me around £300 for a new set then i will just sell the ones that come off so that is the way i am thinking,,,,, do they look better ??? if anyone has any pics of the mk5 with both kinds of wheels on them i would appreciate it, also are the wheels i have easier to keep than the shadows with regards to stone chips, scuffing durability etc.
thanks guys

So you're asking what the difference is, whilst simultaneously saying here is no difference? That's going to get confusing.

By the way, welcome to the forum, I look forward to the eloquence of your posts in the future :happy2:
