Dreaded ESP light staying on
« on: September 25, 2012, 12:59:02 pm »
Hi All

I have an 07 Mk5 GTI DSG with 27000 miles on it. The car has been faultless since I bought it 12 months ago. However, I now have the dreaded ESP light staying on. It's booked in to a VW dealer on Thursday to get looked at, and I'm wondering what the likely outcome is going to be if it's diagnosed as the common ABS pump/sensor fault.

Have VW acknowledged this common fault and they're now repairing them all gratis as they break, or are they dealing with them on an ad hoc basis depending on service history, mileage etc...? I know VW got a bit of stick earlier this year on the BBC's "Don't get Done, Get Dom" program. Has that effected their attitude at all?

From a  bit of Googling, it looks like an expensive fix at circa. £1500. However, there seem to be posts indicating that a cheaper repair kit has been available to VW for a while now at circa. £200. Does anyone know for sure what this is likely to cost if I need to pay for it?

The car was bought from Arnold Clark and it has their AutoCare warranty on it. Does anyone have experience of whether AutoCare will cover this particular fault?

Apologies for all the questions, but forewarned is forearmed.

Cheers
tuglet

Had the same with mine a few months back and they replaced the ABS Sender Unit. Mine was under warranty also so do not know the cost of the repair.
At least your car is covered under warranty. Good Luck.

Was it an Arnold Clark Autocare warranty? I've not had to claim before and I've heard they're not worth the paper they're written on. I'm praying it's covered.

No, mine was covered by a VW warranty.

Cool. Guess I'll find out on Thursday just how good or bad the Autocare warranty is.

I've got the same lights coming on as Graeme  :surprised: haven't had time yet to get it plugged in and checked for faults yet. I can't believe it,just when i thought i had sorted all the "common faults" this happens. I'm quickly losing interest in the brand.

No mate,no brake pad light coming on,just the abs,esp and tyre pressure lights.
The first time they came on was just after i'd put my foot down going up a hill. The lights went out the next time i started my car.Now they come on every time a drive the car, usually if i'm not hanging around.
