noobie looking for buying advice
« on: September 25, 2012, 04:04:17 pm »
Hey guys,

I am planning on going to look at a tornado red ED30 tomorrow and was wondering if there is anything in particular that it should be looking for?
Its a one owner car 37.5k with full franchise service history,so is there any majot bills just around the corner?

Check to see if the timing belt&waterpump have been replaced. Will be about £400 to do.

If it's dsg it will need a dsg oil & filter change at 40000 miles. This is not cheap either, I think around £200. Search the forum to find out for sure.

As the man says above, really just the Camebelt/Waterpump which is 60k miles or 4 years, so in this case it's 4 years. What's the spec like? Is it a private or dealer sale? Post a link up if from a dealer. Prices for Eddy's are coming down but holding around £9k-£14k depending on spec, age and all the usual. Will only get cheaper as the Mk6 GTI becomes more affordable.

Also check the wheels for kerb rash, centre caps for whiteworm and tyres condition.

The K04 Turbo'd ED30 is rock solid and is a great platform on which to add a map if that's the way you want to go. 300+ ponies are only a map, CAI and a TBE away.

Oh and red is the fastest colour too

Check the front wheel arches for the dreaded paint corrosion,,, Not to worry with it though as you could get it covered under warranty...
If it's not broke, Mod it.....

hi,

sounds like your looking at somthing simular to what i picked up except mine was black, with the 4yr waterpump and cambelt change i had to haggle for this to be done before i picked it up because even tho they were stamped dealer service intervals it wasnt clear that this was done on mine.  good luck with it. i wasnt dissapointed once i picked it up, now im running stage 2 its a completly different car  :happy2:

Don't do it... Be patient. ED30 is a much better allrounder

As the man above says.......

DON'T DO IT!!

Be patient and the right one will appear, in your price range and with the spec you want. You might have to travel but the wait will be worth it. I held out for about 6 months for the right one to come along. Travelled all over to look at some cars that turned out to be right turds, then the one turned up 10 miles down the road, go figure.

Have a look through the "Cars For Sale" section on here and on other forums, some cracking cars to be had, generally owned by enthusiasts who have looked after their cars up and beyond the usual standard.

Have you considered saving a bit of cash and getting a standard GTI and then modifying it to your own personal spec.
