guys can i clarify something here, what is the main difference between the monza and monza 2, noob question i know but i see the last pic of the monza 2 has a darker inner circles, shadows is very dark, i get that, and original monzas ? the reason i ask is because i am not sure my monzas reps have any shade difference on the inner circles,,, will check them tomorrow when light,,, now i know they are not painted and i know they are new but i looked today briefly and didnt see any shade diff ? does that mean they are just normal monzas ? will try to put a pic up but not figured out how to do that yet, can any of you guys tell me how to insert a pic from my comp without using something like bucket list for quickness as i would need to set that up,,, would solve a lot of probs if i could just add a pi lol,,,, tried to copy and paste and wont let me ?????

There are 2 main differences between the Monza I and the Monza II. Firstly, the size of the wheel. Monza I, is 17inches and the Monza II, is 18 inches.
The second difference is, the Monza II has a polished face to the wheel, which gives it the slightly chrome look, also the inner section on the Monza II is a darker grey, were as the Monza I is all just one colour.  :happy2:

Post 5 by RR explains the OEM options.

If yours are 18's and all silver then they aren't really a copy of any of the oem wheels. I guess you just have monza 2's but all silver.

think i have just noticed a contributing factor as to why i have a bit of road noise on my tyres, all are 4mm but both near side tyres are michelin pilot sport 2 xl, and both offside are michelin excalto tyres ?, similar tread patterns but not exactly the same,,,, 2 front tyres are at 4mm and both rear around 3.5mm,,,, would you guys think this combination would contribute to a bit more road noise than you may expect ???
never even heard of michelin excalto tyres :scared:

....Surely you should have exactly the same tread patterns on the same axle.

absolutelly yes you do but as i said i have only just had the car a week and although i noticed all the tyres where michelin i didnt notice the diff tread patterns as they are pretty similar,,,,,,only a slight diff in the outside water dispersal grooves so hard to notice but alass they will need changed anyway at 4mm,,,, have you any ideas the best place to source original monza shadows at the best price as i guess i need all wheels and tyres now sigh,,, bit of a bummer considerring the wheels are brand new but i think i will go for the complete change if the price is right,,, will prob take the wheels off the car with the tyres attached and sell them as is on gumtree most likely, will advertise them as non originals but the fact they are brand new should see them shift ok for the right price :driver:

have you any ideas the best place to source original monza shadows at the best price as i guess i need all wheels and tyres now sigh

....I think that most of us don't buy new tyres until they are down to approaching 2 mm. I know that less tread depth = less grip but tyres like the Goodyear Asymmetrics seem to do ok.

For buying Monza Shadows, VW dealers will be the most expensive. Otherwise, genuine ones would have to be sourced privately and anyone selling some would probably sell them very quickly indeed unless too highly priced. I don't know of any replica Monza Shadows but they may exist.

think they were smoked chrome with gloss black inners...

They look good. That's the kind of look I want to get when I get mine refurbed. Can I ask how much it cost?

Just keep your wheels just now , they look smart enough , get yourself some new tyres once youve worn the current ones out (get them changed so that you have 2 of the same tyres on the same axle though , and ASAP!). and while you are running your reps , keep and eye on eBay and on here for genuine ones , even if you have to pick them up one or two at a time. When you get all four , get them refurbed and THEN sell your reps. 99.9% of people who see your car wont have a clue those wheels arent anything but genuine.

+1. They are replica alloys in the Monza II style.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

thanks guys, all very helpfull information there, i will keep the wheels on where they are just now, i know the tread patterns are on the wrong axels but honestly the diff in tread pattern is very very minor with both being identical apart from the groove contour on the outside wall, plus the fronts are both 4mm with both backs at 3.5mm so prob better leaving them as is until i replace the lot,,,, also dont like mechanics anywhere near new wheels unless it is absolutelly necessary as the muppets always scratch them.
i remember when i ran a kwik fit garage i got a call on my day of, i was in b & q with the wife and i just saved something like £20 on a garden item in the sale so was fealing quite chuffed until i was informed that one of my idiot staff just badly scratched a guys alloy who was getting 4 tyres fitted to his ( wait for it ) PORSHE, unbeleivable,,, they had been warned before hand,,,, anyway the alloys where immaculate and he kicked up a storm.
bottom line is we had to pay for replacing the alloy with a brand new original one at a cost of £1500,,,, any damage staff do came out of the depots profit margin so all the staff lost something like £80 out of their salary that month and i personally lost my whole bonus of around £1000 just for that incident.
My b & q £20 discount didnt seem to matter any more on the drive home that day i tell you, 2 days later i had to also sack the guy for theft as well.
Kwik Fit are full of idiots who have very little skill and ever less training,,,, never never never take your car there for ANY work to be done because the little amount of staff who actually have any skill are under paid and rushed through it anyway, that also goes for the other competitors like budget etc,,, all the same.

Cheers, that's the kind of price i've been budgeting for. Just need to find a reputable place in the Bournemouth area to get it done.
