Performance Estates
« on: October 01, 2012, 02:06:45 pm »
Looking at these with interest and we all know about the Audi Avants and Skoda VRS estate but are there any other German/Vag group estates that should be considered? The RS4 would be the ultimate in performance under consideration eg not interested in a Merc AMG estate that pushed out more power than the RS4.

Does anyone know when the 335i touring is due to be released as presumably that is the only real world competitor for the S4 Avant 3.0 V6 (which I note has more torque than the RS4 due tot he supercharger )

Cheers

Quite rare but worth hunting out is the Passat R36.

Drove one when they first came out and it was awesome!!!

would consider remapped 535d as well! Great car and pretty quick with 350ish bhp yet economical

But the AMG's are the best ones.

The rs4 isn't what I'd call a fast car compared to some hot hatches these days, but of a cruiser tbh. C63 no doubts about it is fast though.

S4 Avant  Does it have to be VAG?

What about the Insignia VXR?

Think bigger, they've depreciated worse and are therefore now better value.

V10 M5 touring.
S/RS 6.
E63 AMG.
Sideways yo!

was this the v8 though? At poverty, are the AMG's all not absolutely horrendous on fuel, whereas with the new S4 you might see 21-23 mpg? am only getting 25-26 out of the stg 2+ Eddie

no does not have to be vag, but was thinking german ie merc or BMW.

I guess the Insignia VXR is a lot of bang per buck though eh

The b5 s4 was a 2.7 twin turbo.

The rs4 v8 will get between 18-20mpg going by the one I had. The c63 I'm told is about 15-16mpg but i can double check that from my mate.

The new s4 with a charger is a nice car and fast when modded so a good shout. There is jut something special about c63's though. It's the type of car you can just leave stock, or at the most do the exhaust so you can hear the thunder even better

r36 looks quite interesting, but as evo says, is it not a bit of a poor mans S4/RS4? The new S4 will be better on fuel and quicker so only thing in R36 favour is will be cheaper. I think to run a C63 I would have to sell the house and live in it..

Just to throw a spanner in the works why not consider Japanese? I've just sold a Mitsi Legnum VR_4 and I must say what a wonderful car that was; had it 6 years cost me next to nothing in servicing and in trithI'm sorry I got rid of it! It's a large 5seater estate with plenty of room, a 2.5 V6 with 280 bhp and 0-60 of 5.8 secs plus all the leccie extras you could want (sunroof, auto tiptronic g/b, yaw control, ABS, windows, cruise etc etc.) and extremely reliable. Only drawback in my book was the 23mpg average - and that's driving carefully!! Use it well and expect less than 20mpg!! But a lot cheaper and more 'family' than a GTI or A4 or any German car for that matter - just my opinion!!
Now that food has overtaken sex as the main driving force in my life I can't even get into my own pants!!
