Did swmbos last year, installed a Shark performance map via an STS unit. Excellent and well worth doing IMO, as Maxitrol said, it has virtually eliminated the flat spots, it now revs hard to the red line with a much smoother almost common rail curve.  Back to back tests at sensible speeds shows it to be 2-3 mpg better on economy also so win, win!  :happy2:

I also went with shark and was very pleased but did chuck out some soot under hard acceleration. My turbo's bearing also started to go so put a hybrid with custom map from shark. The GT140 turbo is a weak point on the car.

AMD custom remap on mine, plus a decat, getting somewhere near 200BHP  although AMD's RR is very generous.

Best bang for buck!

With my stock turbo I was seeing circa 180BHP with AMD's map, bit more now though. ;)

I regulary do oil changes with proper spec oil, lett the engine get up to temp before thinking of gunning it anywhere, and most importantly I let the car idle for 15secs+ after every journey, even if it's after a short trip. These help prolong the life of the turbo whether stock or mapped.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

When I got my stage 1 remap (Shark) within months my turbo bearings began to go and I never drove it hard so it was either a coincidence or as a result of the map?

It all depends on how aggressivly they map it to be honest, but it did fail (not blaming the map before anyone starts) and I upgraded.
