Machine polish advice

I enjoy keeping the cars clean and felt ready to take the next step and get a machine polisher!!
Having watched countless you tube demos on how to use it with what pads/products
I still can't remove swirl marks???
Any expert advice how best to remove these on e and for all using the machine polisher?
I use mega pads and mega ultimate compound.

What machine you using and is it a polishing or compounding pad?

If it a da you are using meguiars 105 on a orange hex logic pad followed by 205 on a white hex pad is a good choice.

If its a rotary i prefer to use Menzerna compounds(Cant remenber their numbers) in stages on a orange, then white then finishing off on a black pad.

From what i understand meguiars UC is very similar to 205 so really is only good for finishing.

If you're using a DA machine it may just be that on generally rock hard VW paint you won't be spending long enough on it - Even with a Rotary it can be hard work and time consuming to remove swirls and light scratches.

As above, VAG paint tends to be quite hard. Given that people have managed to get good results using UC by hand, it sounds like you're not doing something right. I would revisit your technique and have a read of this guide:

All polishes have their own "knack" or technique of being worked. For minor swirls, you'd probably get away with a light polishing or even just a finishing pad.

Thanks all, will re visit. Its kestrel DA and I have used megs white and black pads.

Love the DA system. Used it under the guidance of Nathan at DMR and car came up great. Does lose a few microns of clearcoat so would recommend a PDG before use.

I have used the Megs DA Microfiber correction system on a 2008 GTi with amazing results.
