DSG Basic Settings..... Recommended
« on: October 05, 2012, 05:36:14 pm »
Guten Abend

After having my DSG box reset by Alex (and the calibrated by me on the way home) the difference it has made it very noticeable. Its much much happier in D mode now and low gear changes in Manual mode are also very much improved... it seems around much smoother. Before it was fairly clunky and noisy on the odd occasion.

If your DSG box is feeling a bit rough then I strongly recommend you get this done.

Rich

What's involved, Rich? (How?)

Does it matter if the DSG box of tricks is already remapped?

Mine isn't currently lumpy btw.

The "How To" is here Robin...

DSG Adaptation

or a "local" how to Guide is here... http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,24158.0.html

It involves getting the gearbox oil up to temp. and then hitting some buttons in VCDS whist keeping the brake pedal pressed down. Im glad I got Alex to do it because it makes some fairly unpleasant sounds as it doing its thing.  :scared: :scared:

It has no effect on the DSG "map" its self so if ones DSG is mapped then it will still be mapped after this procedure.

Cheers, Rich  :drinking: - I'll speak to JKM about possibly doing it next time my car is in their workshop.

Yeah you might as well. They may do it for free for you as it only takes 5-10 mins to do the VCDS bit and then you can calibrate it as you drive home, following the instructions in the link.

I wonder if this is something I could attempt myself, from reading the 'How to' guide it seems pretty straightforward... but first thing it says is 'Firstly you need a working knowledge of VCDS.'... I've never ever used it before lol.

I'm at JKM tomorrow so will see if I get the chance to speak to Jim about it.

If you are not confident with VCDS Mandy then get JKM to perform the reset for you, you can the do the driving calibration part yourself.

Could do, I'm not sure if the traffic on the way back will allow for the calibrating, you need to do a sudden brake and then floor it don't you?

Well... takes those instructions with a pinch of salt. So long as you can drive it in manual an keep the RPM between the lower and upper number.... then it should be fine. I dont think you actually "have" to perform them verbatim.

Just remember, this can also make early DSG units one times feel worse for a while!

Wow good info.

Who in the Midlands area (i'm in Coventry) would like to do this for me in return for beer tokens/whatever they choose to call it.

The box in mine is DSG mapped (Revo) but from comments above this makes no odds.

Revo Stage2 - With Linear Throttle
Revo DSG
BCS Turboback Powervalve - This is a must.
ITG Closed Intake.. wooosh
