Hey all
         Changing my 05 GTI to a 58 GTI which comes with the aforementioned head unit. I'm just wondering what I have to do to burn a CD , do you just change the type of file from 'audio' to 'data' and the head unit will pick these up ok? I use Windows media player to burn my CDs , does the track name etc come up on the screen when using MP3s on this head unit or is it too old? Also my current car has a CD changer and the new one just has the cubby hole - I have over 3000 songs on my iPhone 4 , is there an adaptor I can fit in place of the cubby in the armrest to take my phone??

You just burn the disc as a data disc and finalise the session. But no it doesn't offer the track names. It shows folder level and track number. It also won't show anything on a high line MFD display on the dash other than track number. You also can only skip tracks on the multi function steering wheel. The iPod connection is expensive from VW direct for what it is according to some other posts on here.

Cheers , I dont have Highline or MFSW (yet!) so that doesnt bother me - picking the car up on saturday so i will try and burn a CD tomorrow to see what happens.

iirc from a pic on the tyresmoke forum a long while back that the mp3 rcd300 version does show the sound name on its screen when playing a mp3.

I have this HU and can confirm this is correct.

I've not found a way to cycle though folders yet, or play them in random.

Right I have a problem , I used Windows media player and burnt a data disc , with about 10 or 11 albums on , and it doesnt work in the stereo. It searches the disc for a few seconds and comes up ERROR - Check CD. I done 4 the same way and none of them work , have I done something wrong?

You sure they are MP3s and no other audio type?

I just done it the same as I always did for my audio discs , ie I drag an album into the burn list , repeat until theres no more space on the disc then click start burn , is this not the way to do it with MP3 discs? Im assuming they are all MP3 files , they all play on WMP on my laptop.

LOL, instead of simply dragging all your tunes in folders to be burnt, leave one or two of the mp3s out of its folder but add them to be individually burnt to the cd i.e. they will then be on the root of the cd.

Okay , problem found! I had ripped everything in WMA format , so i need to get rid of them and re rip them all as MP3 files and all should be ok!

You shouldn't need to put any tracks on the root of the file system, I don't and mine works fine.  I use mp3 and mp4 tracks without an issue, the RCD300 displays the folder name, artist name, album name and track name.
