CECM upgrade problems
« on: October 07, 2012, 08:52:14 pm »
Evening all,
Was wonder if some one could shed some light on a problem I'm having. I have a 2007 Golf TDI Sport. I have retro fitted the factory Xenon headlights but the CECM in my Golf was a midline item and did not support the Xenon's. So I brought a 3C0937049AJ which is a 20byte highline item. At the same time I have also fitted at late gateway 1K0907530AA, as I want to fit a RCD510 and don't want the battery drain. Basically all went well, except I have the following errors on the clock display:
Left signal light not working ( Although they are)
Right signal light not working ( Although they are)
Left rear fog light not working (the left one is the reverse light)
Okay so the reverse light does work, but on the outer lights when the side / dipped lights are switched on the outer parts of the circle are lit in the usual manner but the inside part is brighter like the brake lights would normally be. When pressing the brakes the outer sides of the circle light up in their usual manner. Also on last thing, the rear fog light does light up when switched on but when its not its on very faint like the side lights would normally be. Everything else works as normal, and I switched back to the old CECM and everything worked as it should except for the error with the headlights as this does not support the Xenon's. Any idea's? I assume its just changing some codes but currently I'm stuck.
Thanks.

Did you copy the coding from your old CECM and gateway then edit your new equipment accordingly?

i found when going from a 1k0 to a 3C0 gateway simply copying the coding across didnt actually work as well as i'd hoped...

fit the old gateway, take screenshots/photos on your phone of each and every single coding screen in the long coding and then fit the new module and tick the boxes and set the dimming values exactly as they were in the 1K0 module, some of the values may be in different positions, you may find new values.

depending on what car the 3C0 module came out of you may have to actually uncheck certain boxes (for example, my 3C0 30byte module came out of a skoda octavia so it was setup with twin reverse lights!)

good luck  :happy2:

I did take screen shots and made the relevant changes. The gateway upgrade seems fine, as when I swap over to the old CECM the problems with the rear lights disappear but I have the issue the xenons as there is no option on the midline 23 byte. Like you say there must be a setting on the new highline 3byte but its just a case of locating boxes where the values need to be changed over. If you guys have any further ideas then please feel free to post them up, but in the meantime I shall keep looking.

Just for info all cecms will work with xenons you just have to know which bit to change.

It sounds like the controller is from a left hooker? Or could be a duff one??

If it was mid-line you didnt need to swap controllers. You have to manually code the car, as the xenon option doesnt exist in the long coding helper.

Except low-line... they always throw bulb errors (in my experience)

I thought there were only 2 versions of CECM, High and Mid
Mid will work with xenons but have found they throw the bulb error

Nope there is a low one as well if the bit is correctly ticked where it should be then the xenons will work fine...It will not have any wording for the tick box.

Odd cos ive tried that on 2 SE spec cars to no avail... Yet on my old mk5 1.9 Sport it worked fine.
