Heated Wing Mirrors
« on: October 09, 2012, 10:23:46 am »
Was searching through a few topics from 2009 2010 on heated wing mirrors but was unable to find a definitive answer.

If you DON'T have the Winter Pack/ Icon on your electric mirror panel on the drivers door, do you still have heated mirrors as standard or not?

If they are as standard, do you activate them via the rear window heater button, or are they on all the time?

Thanks

Via the rear demister switch.

I use it after rain as it dries off the sitting droplets.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Heated mirrors are standard on all MK5 Golfs. On some MK5s, you just flick into the heated position and leave it there. Not sure if it works via the wipers or ambient temperature.

Perfect thanks for that, it now appears the passenger side heater element is broken, is this an easy fix or a garage job?

It's part of the glass in the mirror, may be worth prising it off and checking power at the terminals, or thay they're in good order.

I replaced one for my friend years ago and it was £34 then for the heated glass.

Standard on all GTI's. You turn them on with the small round knob you use to adjust the door mirrors. If you look towrds the top of the dial there is a small screen type icon, turn the ''mark'' on the knob to the icon & they come on.Don't leave them on or they will burn out. :happy2:
ED35. Standard factory condition.

You know what, I feel such an idiot.

From my driving position, I can not see that icon on the top of it, as the knob gets in the way. So when I posted this, I'd never noticed this before!!!

Now I know its there I guess I can test it in the morning!

This morning it must have been the sun angle that melted one of them but not the other, so maybe it's not even broken!!! Just never been turned on!
