V9 Maps - Western Europe

I take it as Im running 2760 with V7 I need to update the firmware and then the maps??

For the firmware what can I up date to as I know certain RNS's can only go to certain firmwares, mines an RNS Rev C LED so does anyone know what I can safely upgrade to?

Correct - you should update for the best results. You can go up to the latest on a Rev B or Rev C RNS with no problem. Get it here http://www.my-gti.com/3354/volkswagen-rns-510-firmware-upgrade-to-version-4020-4024-4026-4028 and burn at a 1-2x speed

My maps are showing as 7920 and when i re insert the maps disc, nothing happens...

Looks like youve updated

I would do the firmware upgrade though to benefit from all the new features and the new POI database.

You will need to reload the maps again after however.

Any idea why yours is showing at V7970 but mines only V7920?

7920 and 7970 are both V9 maps

The difference between them, is that 7970 has all the speed cameras and red light cameras on it too

I installed the one with the speed cams, etc. but driving up the A3 yesterday past loads of cameras and not one blip on the map?? Are the cameras for UK too, or elsewhere?

Just for the UK but it may be other countries

Have you turned it on in Setup > Map > Map Details > Car and Travel > Other > Speed Cameras

Yep, definitely on in POI's. The speed and traffic light cameras are both on the list.

I found on mine I had to eject the disk, turn the POIs off then on again for them to come back as they vanished first time

Interesting. I have tried rebooting mine, clearing them then choosing them again, then rebooting again, etc. Still nothing. It's all very annoying.

Slight hijack here-apologies.
My original RNS 510 'A' has 2760 firmware and V8 Maps which I updated last year courtesy of Carl's excellent guide. I've bought V9 Maps but am concerned the unit will fail or not work properly if V9 is loaded. Scott assures me otherwise but after reading this thread I'm not so sure.....
Anyone please?

The risk is fairly low for updating maps

The worst thing that can happen is you loose your current map that is stored on the hard drive. This would happen if the DVD drive struggles to read all the info on the new map DVD. Some drives can be fussy what DVD brand they like.

As most disk that are available are copies from either ebay, friends or other forum members it is likely that some people will have issues.

I have a brand new unit at the minute that I have tried loads of copied dvds in and it fails to load the v9 maps, but as soon as I put the original V6 disk in it loads first time

Interesting, how much are VW charging for the V9 disk & does it include the latest firmware update also?

Does it resolve the Bluetooth streaming issue?

Running 5218, which I installed prior to updating the maps.
