new goodyear eagle f1s asymetrical 2s,,, nice tyres
« on: October 10, 2012, 07:29:23 pm »
after a thread on tyres i finally went for the goodyear eagle f1s asymetrical 2s,,, took of 4 michelins all at 4mm as i was finding them a bit noisy
noticed a difference straight away, a lot quieter the eagles are, very very happy with them.
got a lot of feedback on this sight regarding the best rubber out there but special thanks to red robin as after seing them on his car and reading his feedback i decided to go for them.
paid £420 delivered for them and £72 ( yes expensive i know ) for my garage to fit them.
nice looking tyre, very quiet, has a nice rim lip alloy protector on them as well,,, very happy indeed.
one of the contributing factor as when the garage took of the michelin tyres ( which where on the car when i bought it 3 weeks ago ) something i didnt notice was that 2 of the tyres where narked MO which means they are for mercedes cars only,,, stupid stupid stupid,,, maybe this was one of the reasons for the loud road noise.
anyway used poorboys wheel sealent on the alloys today,,, very good but to long to apply - and that was only 1 coat - to heck with 3 coats,,,, also first polish the car has had i bet since built, used diamond hard wax by simoniz,, seems very good and easy to apply and polish off although with the 2 kids at home only had time to do the one coat but i tell you it took me less time doing that compared to applying and removing the poorboys wheel sealer.
anyway as i said before cheers red robin, we have had our differences but thanks sent your way for the tyre recomendations  :happy2:

I'm surprised you had such issues with the Poorboys - I've used it for years and find it a very easy product to use. I would advocate using a wax over 2 coats though, rather than doing 3 coats of sealant.

can you elaborate on the procedure you use, i just washed the wheels with the normal car wash water then dried them and then 1 coat of sealent,, i think i need to buy a polish as it says on the poorboys box that i should but due to the type of wheels i havent found a polish yet that is not acidic,,,, is the best procedure to use a specific dedicated wheel wash, followed by 1 coat of polish then the poorboys 1 or 2 coats ? just seemed to take me ages to apply it and polish up, mind you since i have never polished a car in my life until now i am pretty rubbish at it, tahnks for your input

thanks for that buddy, just a standard aerial it is,,, when i picked up the car 3 weeks ago the bl**dy aerial was pointing staright up ! looks like the previous owner must have used a car wash at some point and bent the housing,,, there is a tiny crack in the aerial mount which i will need to fix sooner or later also the mounting where it joins the car is a tiny bit pulled away from the cars surface,,, not bad but i will be getting a rcd510 prob soon so will change when i find out about aerial upgrades,, would you beleive vw quoted me in excess of £2k today to upgrade my aerial for a rcd510 as they said i need a heap of cables, new aerial etc,,, i mean wtf,,, i know the roof panel needs to come of to fit a new one but a whole load of new cables ???? man i need to look into this,,, out of interest their price also for a rcd510 if i bought from them is also over £2k,,, so thats £4k minimum if i went with them to supply and fit,,,,, man they are crazy :stupid:

Are those Monza's reps or the real deal?

Cars looking good bud. Have been using F1 2's for a while now and rate them highly.  :happy2:

As for the Poorboys, only use a small bit, goes a long way. You should wax the wheels first with something like Collinite 476s Paste Wax or Collinite 845 Liquid Insulator Wax (i use the 476) then seal. I do 2 coats Wax then 2 coats Sealant.

....Gosh, I'm so glad that you like your GY Asymm 2's - I wouldn't want to feel responsible for you buying them and then not liking them!

Yeah, you and I did get off to a bad start. It happens sometimes and I'm glad we both have been able to put that behind us  :drinking:

I personally dont rate the Eagle F1 Assymetric 2's at all, not very confidence inspiring on the R32, tried playing with pressures but just cannot get good feel out of them. Hope you have a better time than I am with them

First up, it's always a wheels off procedure. I lay them out on the floor, face down on some towels, then apply the sealant to each wheel with a foam applicator. By the time I have completed the 4th wheel the sealant on the 1st is ready to be removed. I then turn them over and do the insides. Then repeat.

I normally leave the sealant to cure overnight, then apply 2 coats of wax, exactly the same procedure.

Having a second set of wheels is obviously beneficial, but do it right and I'd say you're good for at least 6 months I'd say.

....I think that illustrates the fact that some tyres suit some cars better than others.

Thats true, had the old Goodyear Eagle F1's on the MK5 and they were spot on, tried the assymetrics on R32 and it feels like they are constantly underinflated and the sidewall flexes too much under spirited cornering
