Gloss black grills
« on: October 10, 2012, 08:20:33 pm »
I have just fitted my gloss black de-badged grill and really like the gloss black look,

I don't mind paying the get the lower grill and fog light grills but I thought it may be easy to DIY.

Has anyone done this if so some tips would be appreciated :)

I've been told you can just yank out the lower grille but the thought makes me queasy. Ordinarily, you'd have to remove the lower bumper and then unclip the lower grille. Know what you're talking about as the upper grille always seems different to the rest.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Lower grill does just pull out. Needs a bit of a tug but it comes out with no ill effects.

Rustoleum or plastikote work well. Ive used plastikote on plastic several times and its worked very well. Only used the rustoleum once as its a bit expensive.
Preperation is key  :happy2: Remove all dirt and degrease (as CONORF above)

Don't ask! I did do a good winter detail with a good tough coat of wax so fingers cross all will be ok,
I live in the country so the car gets dirty very quick :sad1:
