Speed Camera gadgets
« on: October 12, 2012, 02:45:49 pm »
Evening all

My Tom Tom has had the speed camera alerts on it and in all honesty i reckon it has saved me from getting points on many occassion, but its now ancient and prone to stopping working all together.

Plus vRS_Alex has kindly sold me a Columbus stereo with NAV for my car.  So im thinking it might be worthwhile to buy a speed camera detector that can stay fitted in the car permanently.

Any body use these, are there any legality issues i need to look into before deciding on the best option?

Sy

I don't think there are any issues with the GPS based camera location devices in this country, it's when you go down the route of radar jammers etc it all becomes dodgey.

I'm sure France have just banned all speed camera devices including GPS based one so it could be doing a little more research if you intend to use them on the continent.

Won't the alerts be just visual on the RNS or has someone managed to workout how to get audio alerts as well ?

Sorry no audio alerts on RNS. I have a Talex for that side of things.

.
I've used Road Angels but they didn't cater for uploads to Macs so I got a GPS PogoAlert and then their latest version PogoAlert+.

The display unit slides on and off a fixed mount which I have hardwired. Switches on and off automatically with ignition. I have it displaying my speed in mph but you can switch to kph easily. It sometimes takes a few minutes to lock onto a satellite but is usually okay.

Inforad by far best one, £50 from halfords, can't be doing with stuff on dash, had mine few years, works all over Europe and free updates.

^^^^
I like mine centrally on the dash in my line of sight - The GTI Mk5 clock displays are very poor and my speedo is very inaccurate too - 100 mph on clock = 83 mph on GPS (tested on several GPS devices).

....Why is it by far the best one? - It doesn't do half of what the PogoAlert+ does as far as I can see.
