90% of the time im just commuting in D, then use M when i actually fancy 'driving'. S mode is just cr4p, so i literally never use it.

If im stopped for anything over 3-5 seconds or so i put it into neutral, otherwise its just like holding a manual car on the clutch, which surely is bad?

.
I'm surprised how many folks here are reporting that they drive so much in D and then only use M for more spirited driving. It's as if they drive their car like it was a conventional automatic transmission and only use M occasionally.

I prefer to primarily 'Think Manual' and use my DSG gearbox in M as if it was a conventional manual transmission. Consequently I only use D in slow traffic jam crawls and through urban 30/40 limit areas.

I do drive my ED30 like it's an Auto most of the time  :ashamed:, (Part of the reason I got DSG), the other bit is I can change gear when I want to the other small amount of time, best of both worlds.  :happy2:

I do NOT miss the clutch in slow moving traffic or stop start traffic or when I am pootling off the Golf Club.  :signLOL:

Have only had my car a couple of weeks so it could be to do with that bit does anyone else get wheelspin on acceleration (maybe hard acceleration) from standing?

You have to learn how to control the DSG box when making fast launches. Its not just a case of nailing the throttle and hanging on for dear life!

In my old Ed30 it would wheelspin for fun, especially in anything remotely damp, but the R32 has more grip than power, simply floor it and go.

....As far as I can tell from reading, holding it in D with a foot on the brake is not the same as holding it on the bite of a conventional clutch system. The action of using the brake pedal sends instructions to the DSG box of tricks. I think it's similar to how the Hill Assist feature works and that is definitely a DSG feature which does no potential damage.

We have to realise that the DSG is a new generation of technology and not just a glorified conventional automatic nor conventional manual transmission.

I'd love to drive my car in manual mode all the time but unfortunately I would get about 15mpg cos I would never be below 3k rpm v6 noise is far too addictive lol

....So true!! It happens to me every time I drive a V6! Where's the nearest V-Power pump?  :happy2:

I drove it in D nearly all the time for the first month I had the car,
but I always use manual now, even in traffic.
My consumption took a hit but D is just so bland in comparison

I never use s, havent had a drag race yet lol!
