« on: October 13, 2012, 09:18:08 pm »
Hey all I'm Tom, I just stumbled across this forum online.

I'm looking for a 3 door 2008 Golf GTI with the diamond cut wheels on and I'm off to look at 1 tomorrow is the anything I should look out for apart from full service history?

Thanks all but I'm new to all this forum stuff

Welcome along Tom!  :drinking:

FVWSH is a good thing to have. As its over 4 years old it should have had its cambelt/Waterpump changed, it's 4 years or 60k. Make sure it's done or it will be a £400+ straight away and it will need doing if not done.

Is it a private or trade sale? If trade, get a link up.

What's the price, spec like. Loads about to choose from, forums are a great place to source a car, one owned by a fellow enthusiast will generally have been maintained above and beyond the usual requirements.

As there's a few about, do yourself a "spec wish list" and go from there. Pretty much everything can be retrofitted (at a price, some low, some high).

Thanks for the reply.

Its from a dealer and i've already looked in to the cambelt and water pump and this will be changed when the sale is agreed.

Not sure how I put the link up but its got:
full vw history
1 previous owner
49k miles.
Full leather
Dual climate control
The upgraded diamond cut wheel with 4 good matching Michelin tyres
Ands its black
£11995

I've been looking for a while Ive found cheaper cars but nothing with this spec.
How does this sound to you? :happy2:

good luck! You have made a good choice

Check the 2 front wings for rust, as this is an issue... It can be fixed under the vw paint warranty  :happy2:  but may allow some price movement  :happy2:

If you havent driven one before, maybe have a few test drives...
If it's not broke, Mod it.....

Silver is the way !

£12k is a fair amount, I would expect Xenons, MFSW (multi function steering wheel) and RNS510 (top of the range head unit) at least for that money. £12k can get you an Edition30 (my Eddy was £12k a year ago so cheaper now) or even a Pirelli, just a thought!

Its got rear parking sensors and iPod connection but I'm not sure what spec the CD player is or if is even has a multi function steering wheel, how will I know if I has xenons?

I'll give the wings a good once over but by the sound of it it's not a massive Issue because its covered under the paint warranty.

I looked at a few Edition30s but to be honest I'm not to keen on the wheels they come with and i couldn't find 1 with full leather but I'm not fussed about the extra 30horses because I may be interested in tuning and getting her to stage 2 which will be the first time I've ever tuned my car

I've taken 1 for a test drive a while back which went well but was a 5door which I don't want and I've also driven my mates R32 which blow my head off even since then I've had to have a golf lol

Oh and thanks for all the fast reply I'm impressed as this is my first time on any forum  :happy2:

Xenons look like this....

Have a good look on here regarding tuning. Loads of threads on the subject. The bigger k04 Turbo'd Eddy/Pirelli will get 285bhp+ with just a map and nothing else whereas you'll need a fair bit of hardware to get there in the GTI, full TBE Zorst £1000+ and a CAI (cold air intake) £300+and a  HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) £750+ and maybe an upgraded intercooler ie. an S3 one £300+ and the map (for example REVO £600). If your car is a manual it will need an upgraded clutch as it can't handle the torque so about £1000 fitted. If its DSG, that will need a map as well. Get all that done and you may be around the same power as an Edition 30 on stage 1 alone.

To give you an idea what's involved, a respected Indy garage/tuner offer packages for the K03 and K04, from their website, see what's needed.......

http://www.jkm.org.uk/performance/jkmtfsi.htm

If your not keen on the BBS Pescara's that come with the Eddy you can always pick up a set of 18" or 19" Monza 2's or Monza Shadows for that OEM Look.

Hundreds of threads regarding R32 v ED30, one has slightly more power but weighs a lot more, one slightly quicker in a straight line and the other is slightly more nimble IMO. In standard form the R32 does sound alot better though. ED30 is loads more "tuneable"

Get into an Eddy or 2 and try them out. The GTI is immense (my last one was) but the ED30 and Pirelli are just a stage further along and for the money your spending I would have a look especially if your going to mod it in the future.

Hope this helps and not confuses. Happy car hunting fella.

Ah didn't realise that the ED30 that a bigger turbo I just thought I was a different map or something but I wouldn't want to go mad on the tuning but I'd like to get 250bhp but I'll see how the car drive when I get 1 but I looked at a few GTIs and got my heart set on 1 with the Monza alloys on which I love.

I'm now off to check 1 out so I'll update soon

Thanks all

Wow that is a nice car!!!! But i needed to go trade because I wanted the warrenty and the finance, I personally wanted a totally standard car so I could slowly upgrade it bit by bit.

I'm happy to anounce I am not a owner of a black 3door Golf GTI.  :driver:

The car and the wheels were absolutley spotless and it just felt right, he offered a fair price for my current car as a trade in a 3Dr Astra 1.8 Sri+ and had a 40minute test drive on our own and she really did go well I've fallen in love with the leather seats and armrest and the cam belt and water pump will be fitted before I pick it up

I really can't wait you!!!!!
