RS3 v Golf R
« on: October 13, 2012, 09:48:50 pm »
Hello all

I'm sure it been asked on here before, but I've searched and can't find it!  Which is better......

It's always around this time of year ,when FWD gets a bit frustrating, especially when it's stage 1. It doesn't help with Hurdy's build thread, and the performance he's getting out of the same engine but the added bonus of 4wd. So in the last couple of weeks I've been looking at R's. However the GTI has every option bar suspension and roof, and I can find anything to match that's reasonably priced. So that's led me to the RS3.......alright I might not be able to get a fully loaded one but I can buy a month old car for £3k7 ish.  I always finance my cars through my work, and due to the strong residuals I'm sure it's not going to be much difference to a £30k R.

I haven't driven either, so I will welcome any input before I go test driving......will the RS be as strong residual wise, as say my old B7 RS4, or will it even feel a proper RS when compared??

Cheers in advance :happy2:

What about this thread.........

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,28553.0.html
That's S3 isn't it? Not RS3

And to add to my opening of the thread, I've got a demo on the M135 coming up, which looks to be the performance bargain of them all, but not 4wd........

All thoughts welcome

The M135i seems to be a revelation. Every review I've read on it has raved about it.

It does seem that way doesn't it. I've priced it up and it comes out quite reasonably under £34k fully loaded with 10+% discount.

Rs3 is heavier than the Golf R but maps straight to 400hp.

Even stge 2 plus golf R vs stock RS3, the golf will be quicker till about 100 then the rs3 extra capacity and cylinder takes over. Both are a piece of piss to drive.

Residuals won't be as good as the b7 rs4 if the TTRS is anything to go by.

She has an Ed35 at the moment. I tried a 1M around Brands and over it, but only 3 door and manual - it's got to be auto and 5 door
