Random Alarm
« on: October 13, 2012, 09:24:46 pm »
My alarm has been going off randomly, it will sound for a few seconds then stop but the indicators are still flashing. Has anyone else had this?

Hopefully I can get a diag done next week just looking for pointers.

Thanks

Unfortunately you'll need a VCDS scan to see what the last four activations were caused by.

When I've had random alarms it's due to the siren backup battery dying.

I've also heard of fly's in the cabin setting off the ultrasonics.

Could be loads of things...
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Sounds like the alarm siren has gone up the wall. Quite a few people have had this happen including me and costs ~£115 from the dealers and is easy to replace. But try and get a scan first as this will tell you if its definitely the siren.

Another way to check the alarm system is ok is when you lock the car does the led on the drivers door stay solid red or flash fast then start blinking once every couple of seconds? If its solid before it flashes every few seconds then there is a fault on the alarm system

Also if it is the siren you will get this error code in VCDS

1 Fault Found:
01134 - Alarm Horn (H12)
            004 - No Signal/Communication

Thanks guys,

Its the direction I was thinking, I used to have the solid led then flash, but that seems to have stopped now and gone back to normal

Hopefully can get it plugged in on Monday to see.

Mine used to do that as well, be fine for a few weeks then start again. A scan is definitely the place to start as the LED can signal other faults like one of the doors deadlocks playing up etc
