My Mk5 DSG Golf Gti...... *Service, Rear ARB & BCS GB*
« on: October 17, 2012, 06:30:35 pm »
Had the golf for a few months now and now that its clean and tidy i thought i'd start a little project thread. Spotted it on PH and went to have a look the next day to see what it was like in the flesh. It had the usual corrosion to the wheel nut covers, centre caps and boot badge aswell as a few little dinks and generally needing a good tidy up.

The car came with a fairly good spec, DSG, SatNav, mfsw, xenons and highline computer. It also had BBS Pescara's and colour coded bumpers fitted from VW

The car after a good wash, polish and wax.

The plan is to keep it reasonably standard

So far, Ed30 Gear Knob and Handbrake, Gti Seat inserts and Stainless Foot Rest

Mk6 Boot badge to replace the standard corroded one

R32 rear lights, Before

After

That is how it stands for now, will be in at AKS Tuning tomorrow for a service and maybe a few other bits

This looks superb  Those DSG paddles are huge  :driver:

The MK6 boot badge is one of my fave mods, worked a treat on mine with a carbon wrapped plastic boot lid.

Haha, yes the DSG paddles are quite large, lol. To be honest they're not my cup of tea, i think the originals are in the boot. They were purchased from America and are replacements rather than extensions. I may buy smaller ones or spray these matt black to make them stand out a bit less.

Re: My Mk5 DSG Golf Gti.... AKS Tuning Service

So the car was due a service and after making a few enquiries it was booked in at AKS Tuning. It worked out a 150mile round trip but after speaking to Alex the car would definitely be in good hands.

I had the coil packs changed at VW a few weeks back and they had said that the console bushes were showing signs of wear. It seemed silly not to upgrade them so that was put on the list of jobs to be done.

The car was treated to the following:
Oil and Filter service with Millers 5w40
Pollen Filter
Fuel Filter
Nology Spark Plugs (These have given a noticeable improvement on start up alone)
Cam Follower (The old one wasn't in too bad condition after 57k and it looks like i have the newer camshaft also)
Superpro ALK
Superpro Dogbone mount insert
Replacement Dogbone
H&R 30mm Lowering springs fitted
Black washer bottle cap

Alex scanned the car to find a boost deviation fault and on the way to get the tracking done he said the car felt relatively flat on boost. A Rev G DV was fitted and the car is now completely transformed. The old DV had a split in the diaphragm atleast a quarter of the way round, that would explain that Nissan Micra flying past me on the way up there, lol.

All credit to Alex, his work and knowledge were excellent and the car is now ten times better.

The cars handling is now much improved. The Superpro ALk coupled with the H&R springs definitely improve the overall feel of the car. And all of this was done to a car that was staying standard, lol.

The springs have now settled so some pics

Just lowers it enough to improve the look without going too low in my opinion and the ride isn't compromised either. I've also bought a new front VW badge as mine is showing a few signs of wear. The old one will be removed and sprayed matt black as an alternative to the chrome.

I've never noticed a huge difference in spark plugs before but i'm impressed with these.

I had a good look around your Leon Mike  :notworthy:  Alex's to do list for your car was looking quite small though, saying that it was last week and no doubt Alex has had some new parts delivered that will take your fancy, lol.

Think it just needs dropping at the body shop & handbrake adjusting now (for now)

Next year; pole positions, WMI, bilstein pss10, 2nd set of wheels.

Picked up my wheels last week after having the centre bores machined out, so today i set about trial fitting them just to make sure they go on and to see if i like them.

The wheels are 18x8j et48 and feel a lot lighter than the pescara's i have fitted albeit without tyres yet.

Future plans are a Stage 1 remap and R32 brakes all round and then the modifications will stop (i think)

AKS tuning will be getting a phone call in the very near future
