Quick wheel fitment question
« on: October 19, 2012, 06:37:17 am »
Basically I have been trawling eBay for some new winter wheels. With the possibility of a brake upgrade in the future my 16" Imolas won't fit over the new brakes. So have been looking at what 17" OEM wheels are about. My question is I have found some I like bit not sure if they would fit. They are 17x7.5J with an ET of 28. I don't fully understand offsets but I know this is quite low. Also I think the bore is 66.6 as opposed to 57.1 like the Golf uses. Could some sleeves be made that are an interference fit in the bore to reduce this down?

Thanks  :happy2:

I managed to get a set of 17 inch monzas off the 'bay for £200. All in good condition and with centre caps..  They seem to come up quite often - unless that's more than you were expecting to pay, why go for a non OEM wheel????

J

Edit to add that these were bought for winter tyres too..

a smaller centre bore would need to be made bigger no worth all the time and expence just  for winters if you get wheels with a bigger bore you can buy spacers to reduce the size spigot rings their called , most after market wheels have large bores and then they use rings for different cars

i agree go OEM loads about on Ebay

You can get spigot rings on eBay that will reduce the center bore to 57.1 for the golf.

I'm not sure about the offset it would depend on what width of tyres you are planning to fit to the wheels.

I just bought a set of 16s with winter tyres that are et35 and will be test fitting them this weekend although I think I might have to get longer wheel bolts. They have 205 tyres as apposed to the standard 225s so I am hoping that I don't have any clearance issues

That is the same money that these are aswell. I prefer the look of these to the Monza's though I have considered them.

Could either buy them or make some. I work in engineering so wouldn't be a problem. The 16" Imolas I have are running 205's. I imagine 17's would take 215's?
