Green cap? Are your tyres filled with nitrogen? Do you get any pressure loss at all or any advantages of running with nitrogen?

....Yes, green cap = nitrogen. No significant advantage I can feel when driving but pressures more stable and my local ATS does mine for free.

used to have these on my 8v mk3, they were great but I only had 115bhp! always wonder why they are so cheap if so capable? But i think in Japan, Toyo are only seen as a mid range tyre are they not?

I dont know if they are low/mid/high tyres tbh, I just know they are grippy in dry, great in wet and are lower price than other tyres, have used them on my last 3 GTI's  :happy2:

Those Toyo Proxes T1R tread pattern looks very similar to Goodyear's Eagle F1 Directionals before they brought out their Asymmetrics. They were a very good tyre I found but the Asymmetrics better in the wet.

I work in a gas plant so have unlimited access to UHP nitrogen all I need to buy is a tyre inflator to connect to a regulator and be able to fill my tyres with N2 whenever its needed.

A decent accurate  tyre inflator is around £50 so I'm not quite sure if its worth the investment or not

....Probably not worth the financial investment but it might be worthwhile conveniently as you work in a gas plant with free nitrogen.

If you were storing tyres partly inflated for a long time then nitrogen will have definite advantages due to less oxygen/moisture content and with less loss of pressure.

Just buy a cheap inflater and an accurate pressure gauge (about a tenner)

7mm on the r1r's and 5mm on the 888's
I am running r1r's too. Superb dry weather grip. Dont last long though. I had mine fitted weekend before inters and theres only about 3mm left on. Gonna put my winter rims on and get some assymetrics on them i think. Then back to the r1r's for the summer again.

Michelin Pilot Sport 3's all round.  They came with the car and I replaced one as soon as I got it as it was down to the wear indicators.  £135 fitted through Black Circles, and Clubcard points!

IMO great tyres, however I've taken a big step up in buying this car, I used to drive a 96 Polo with Primewell's on the front, one Firestone and one Mohawk on the rear.  Therefore, my benchmark was pretty low to start with...   :driver:

Will probably try a different tyre when these have had their day.

I will try the cheap inflator from eBay and see how I get on. I already have a digital pressure gauge that I use weekly to check the pressures at the same time I check the oil and all other fluids

I'm planning to swap over from my monzas to winter wheels at work when the time comes as its coverd and dry at work, so will give them a few purges with nitrogen and top up to 1bar for storage.

I now have 2x tyre trolleys and my wheel bags are due to arrive tomorrow so I'm well prepared for this winter

I got a generic response from Goodyear telling me to return the tyres to a Goodyear dealer and they will send them back to Goodyear after fitting new Goodyear tyres and if they are found to be defective the dealer will issue me a refund on the % of tread remaining from the defective tyres. No mention of what could of caused the splitting and I'm not willing to pay for new tyres all round just to be able to get a response from them.

I'd rather just find out if it is just an assy1 problem or if the assy2s are effected too!

I'm going to get the 4 x asy1 s that I have in the garage fitted when the weather gets nicer and keep a close eye on them.

On a plus note I just checked the tread depth on the continental winter sports I bought last week and they are 6.5mm on the front and 7mm on the back so really happy as they were advertised as having 4mm so should get at least 2 winters out of them

I have Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's  ~£120 each

2nd set now, great all rounder tyres (even in the wet, although they do wear a little quicker than other brands but not by much)
